QB Ben Musser, RB Andrew Beard pace Prince Avenue Christian (Ga.) to season-opening win

The high school football season got underway in the state of Georgia on Wednesday via the Corky Kell and Dave Hunter Classic. Kicking things off was a matchup between Prince Avenue Christian and Callaway.
Mother Nature did its best to wipe things out at halftime, but after some lengthy delays, Prince Avenue Christian used a major second half to roll toward a 40-17 victory. The Wolverines were down 17-13 at halftime, but that didn’t deter quarterback Ben Musser and Co.
The junior gunslinger and Virginia Tech commit finished his season-opener with 335 total yards and three touchdowns. He completed 14 of 19 pass attempts for 227 yards and two scores. He also rushed for 108 yards and added another TD on the feet, pacing his team to a 1-0 record.
“All glory to God, man. We came out a little rough, little things, bumps and bruises, but we really came together,” Musser said postgame when speaking with Born to Compete. “Coach Richt’s prepared us for this, scheme-wise, strategy-wise, we dotted all the Is, crossed all the Ts during the summer. Came out and really functioned as an offense in the second half.”
Musser’s first touchdown of the season was a bomb. Down 10-7 in the second quarter, he uncorked a deep ball to junior receiver Hudson Hill, who dusted the Callway secondary and took the reception to the house for an 87-yard score.
Musser had a major weapon in the backfield to help take the edge off in the form of junior four-star running back Andrew Beard. The No. 11 RB in the 2027 cycle, Beard had three touchdowns of his own and finished with 143 rushing yards and 71 receiving yards.

The 5-foot-9 burner tallied the first touchdown of the season for PAC, busting a long run through the middle of the Callaway defense in the first quarter.
The duo of Musser and Beard will make the Wolverines tough to beat all season. Earlier this week, Rivals’ Andy Villamarzo tabbed PAC to take home another state title. The program is now led by Jon Richt, the son of former Georgia and Miami head coach Mark Richt.
Prince Avenue Christian entered the week as the No. 39 team in Georgia, per the Rivals Composite Rankings. A big-time bout awaits in two weeks, as it will host Blessed Trinity Catholic. The Titans open the year as a top-30 program in the Peach State.
Another tough matchup awaits Callaway in two weeks. The Cavaliers will head to Alabama and take on Opelika, one of the premier programs in the Yellowhammer State.
