California high school announcer calls player 'a dumbass' on hot mic

Last Thursday, during a California high school football game between Mater Dei and Corona Centennial at the Santa Ana Bowl, a public address announcer was caught on a livestream hot mic.
As shown on Sports Illustrated’s high school sports medium, SBLive Sports, the Mater Dei High School PA announcer yelled “turn around” on the school’s livestream before announcing the play on the stadium mic in his normal cadence: “Pass intended for No. 11, Tyler George. Incomplete. Penalty markers down.”
Then, off the stadium mic but still audible on the livestream, the PA announcer criticized the Mater Dei defensive back who was called for pass interference.
“Turn around, you dumbass,” he said. “Read his eyes.”

After some dead air, the PA announcer circled back to his post-play commentary and — still audible on the livestream — called himself “redundant” for describing the penalized Mater Dei DB as a “dumbass.”

“I don’t know why I’m calling a 16-year-old a dumbass,” he said. “It’s kind of redundant. … Maybe it’s more ‘asshat.'”
Mater Dei won the game, 42-25, but the PA announcer is making the bigger headline for his hot mic antics.
Tarek Fattal, a senior reporter for SI’s high school sports medium, SBLive Sports, reported Monday that Mater Dei will be fined $600 for offering an alternate stream to last week’s game against Corona Centennial, which, per Fattal, is a violation of the California Interscholastic Federation’s media policy/rights to the network that had exclusive rights to the matchup, NFHS Network.
