With the 2025 California high school football season moving to its third week, some of the state’s top teams based on the latest Massey Ratings will compete against each other. Likewise, the best from the Golden State will face some elite teams from outside California. Of the hundreds of games happening over the weekend, here are the five that stand out.

Kahuku (Hawaii) at No. 1 Mater Dei

When: Friday, September 5, 7 p.m. PT
Where: Santa Ana Academy, Santa Ana, California

The Monarchs won their second consecutive game, but in atypical fashion, after Bishop Montgomery forfeited their game. They will now welcome Kahuku, one of Hawaii’s top teams. While the Red Raiders could be a formidable opponent, Mater Dei’s dominance and home-field advantage should give them another victory.

Massey prediction: Mater Dei 41, Kahuku 0

St. Frances Academy (Md.) at No. 2 St. John Bosco

When: Friday, September 5, 7 p.m. PT
Where: St. John Bosco Stadium, Bellflower, California

The Braves have won their first two games by a combined score of 97-7. For the third week of the 2025 California high school football season, they will welcome Maryland’s best high school football team. The Panthers started their campaign with a 42-13 win against Chaminade-Madonna, one of Florida’s best teams. St. Frances Academy should be a tough challenge for St. John Bosco, making it one of the week’s best games.

Massey prediction: St. Frances Academy 28, St. John Bosco 20

No. 8 Folsom at No. 3 Mission Viejo

When: Friday, September 5, 7 p.m. PT
Where: Mission Viejo High School Football Stadium, Mission Viejo, California

The Bulldogs completed a 2-0 start after defeating Junipero Serra (San Mateo) 56-42. This Friday, Folsom will play on the road again versus Mission Viejo, the third-best team in California high school football. With the Diablos also at 2-0 after a dominating victory over St. Paul, someone will suffer their first loss in Week 3.

Massey prediction: Mission Viejo 37, Folsom 27

No. 5 Orange Lutheran at Basha (Ariz.)

When: Friday, September 5, 7 p.m. PT
Where: Jim Wall Stadium, Chandler, Arizona

The Lancers are coming off a hard-fought 27-24 victory over Rancho Cucamonga to go to 2-0. They will play their second road game in three weeks, visiting Arizona’s second-best team. Basha had a strong start to their season, handily defeating Brophy College Prep 42-6. Orange Lutheran will have its hands full in fighting for a 3-0 record.

Massey prediction: Basha 28, Orange Lutheran 24

No. 12 Los Alamitos at No. 15 Junipero Serra

When: Friday, September 5, 7 p.m. PT
Where: Junipero Serra Football Field, Gardena, California

Los Alamitos remained undefeated after a 48-0 shutout victory over Narbonne. For their next game, they will travel to face the Cavaliers. Gardena’s Junipero Serra hasn’t surrendered a point in their first two games. However, keeping the Griffins scoreless could be a tall order, as this game could go down to the wire.

Massey prediction: Los Alamitos 28, Junipero Serra 27
