JSerra Catholic (Calif.) officially posted their head football coaching position on Nov. 2 and it will quickly be considered one of the most desirable jobs in California high school football, maybe even the country. That’s because the Lions have made it be known they are willing to pay a pretty penny for whomever wants the job.

Per the posting by the school, the Lions listed the position of ‘Football Head Coach’ with a pay range between $150-$200k. Below is an excerpt from the listing by JSerra from their official website regarding the vacant position.

The Football Head Coach at JSerra is, first and foremost, a man of God who models for the young men in his program a deep love for Jesus Christ and a faith that is lived out in practice by his daily witness and fierce commitment to personal spiritual growth. Professionally speaking he provides the necessary practice, support, and supervision of the Football program using existing expertise in the sport. The coach’s responsibilities include planning and leading all training sessions, providing motivation and direction during gameplay, developing game plans, as well as hiring and managing entire coaching staff. You should be able to identify the individual abilities of each player and provide one-to-one coaching wherever required. To be successful as a football coach, you should demonstrate great love for the game of football and be able to foster good sportsmanship in the players. Outstanding candidates are highly motivated, committed, disciplined, patient and ready to compete at the highest level.

The Lions just recently parted ways with Victor Santa Cruz after three seasons running the football program. Santa Cruz finished his time as the lead man with a 14-18 overall record from 2023-2025.

This past 2025 season, JSerra Catholic was out-scored by opponents 402-223 and the Lions were a lowly 3-12 when it came to playing within the vaunted Trinity League, one of the toughest high school football leagues in the country.

Santa Cruz’s dismissal came right after JSerra Catholic’s 41-14 loss to Santa Margarita Catholic in the regular season finale. After a promising 3-2 start to the season, the Lions took a nosedive in the second half of the season, losing five straight games to end the 2025 campaign.
