California High School Football Rankings: Top 25 Teams - Sept. 29

The high school football season continued in California last week, as many of the top programs in the Golden State were in action. Plenty of interesting results followed.
Another jam-packed slate is on deck as teams continue their quests for a state title. Below are the top 25 California high school football teams, according to the Massey Ratings, as of Sept. 29.
1. St. John Bosco Braves
The Braves became the best team in California high school football after a 49-20 victory over Hawaii’s St. Louis. Koa Malau’ulu threw for 175 passing yards and four touchdowns, while Darren Tubbs had 97 receiving yards and a touchdown. Maliq Allen added a rushing touchdown, while Matthew Muasau had six tackles (including one sack) to lead the defense. St. John Bosco can improve to 6-0 with a road victory against JSerra Catholic on October 3.
2. Mater Dei Monarchs
Not playing last weekend might be the factor that dropped the Monarchs one spot in the rankings. After their latest win against Bishop Gorman, Mater Dei will return to action in a road game against Orange Lutheran on October 3.
3. Sierra Canyon Trailblazers
For five straight games, the Trailblazers have limited their opponent to single-digit scoring. In their 41-9 victory against Orange Lutheran, Laird Finkel threw for 273 yards and two touchdowns, while Jaxsen Stokes rushed for 48 yards and three touchdowns. Meanwhile, Mikhal Johnson and the Sierra Canyon defense registered 12 tackles for losses, including seven sacks. Havon Finney Jr. also added a punt return touchdown. The Trailblazers will try to get their sixth win this season against Junipero Serra Gardena on October 3.
4. Centennial Huskies
The Huskies have won three straight games after defeating Rancho Cucamonga. Braylin Drake ran for 91 yards and a touchdown, while Malaki Davis added 91 rushing yards and a TD. A victory against Roosevelt on October 2 will improve Centennial’s 2025 California high school football record to 4-1.
5. Mission Viejo Diablos
After losing to McCallie School, the Diablos bounced back with a 36-21 victory against Chaparral. Luke Fahey tallied 223 passing yards, 34 rushing yards, and five touchdowns (three passing). Davonte Carter added 97 rushing yards, while Jack Junker had 67 receiving yards and two TDs. Meanwhile, Mission Viejo’s defense dominated, generating 19.5 tackles for loss (including 9.5 sacks). Of that number JD Hill and Kane Nolte combined for five sacks and 25 total tackles for losses. The Diablos can start another winning streak if they can defeat Long Beach Poly on October 3.
6. Santa Margarita Catholic Eagles
The Eagles’s three-game winning streak ended after a 14-0 loss to Bishop Gorman. Despite the loss, Arizona commit Dash Fifita deserves credit after finishing with two sacks and seven total tackles. Santa Margarita Catholic can bounce back by winning against Servite on October 3.
7. Orange Lutheran Lancers
The Lancers struggled against Sierra Canyon, scoring only nine points. Matthew Zapien provided Orange Lutheran’s lone touchdown via a fumble return touchdown, while Aiden Migirdichian’s field goal completed the Lancers’ scoring. Orange Lutheran’s 2025 California high school football season continues with an October 3 home game against Mater Dei.
8. De La Salle High School Spartans
The Spartans remain undefeated after a 36-7 victory against St. Mary’s. De La Salle’s rushing attack dominated, finishing with 292 yards and four touchdowns. Duece Jones-Drew led the way with 66 yards and two touchdowns, while Jaden Jefferson contributed 63 yards and a TD. Meanwhile, Dylan Scott added 69 receiving yards and a score. De La Salle will face Cathedral Catholic on October 3.
