The California high school football season is in full swing as teams opened up their fall campaign over the weekend. This means that with every succeeding week, we’ll monitor the rankings of the state’s top teams. After the first slate of games, here are the top 25 teams from the Golden State according to the Massey Ratings.

1. Mater Dei Monarchs

The Monarchs opened the season with a 26-23 victory over Florida’s St. Thomas Aquinas. Mater Dei held on for the win despite a late 20-0 scoring run by the Raiders. Wisconsin commit Ryan Hopkins finished with eight completions for 232 yards and three touchdowns, while wideout Chris Henry Jr. had four catches for 134 yards and two touchdowns. The nation’s best high school football team will continue its season against Bishop Montgomery on Aug. 29.

2. St. John Bosco Braves

The Braves made a strong statement during their season-opener, blanking Manatee 31-0. St. John Bosco scored all of their points in the first half while shutting down the Hurricanes, a good result after losing their final game last season against Mater Dei. Their California high school football season continues against Texas’ Eastwood Troopers on Aug. 29.

3. Orange Lutheran Lancers

The Lancers opened their campaign with a two-point victory over Miami Northwestern. Quarterback Reagan Toki and wide receiver Nico Bland connected on two touchdowns, while Court Mercure converted the game-winning field goal. Orange Lutheran will face Rancho Cucamonga on Aug. 29.

4. Centennial Huskies

The Huskies started their campaign with a dominating 42-14 victory over Servite. Centennial scored the first 35 points before the Friars put points on the board. Running back Malaki Davis dominated Servite’s defense by scoring three touchdowns. The California high school football season for the Huskies will continue against Santa Margarita Catholic on Aug. 28.

The Diablos won their season opener 7-3 count against Santa Margarita Catholic. The lone touchdown came from the pass from quarterback Luke Fahey (Ohio State) to wide receiver Jack Junker. Mission Viejo will aim for a 2-0 start against St. Paul on Aug. 29.
