California High School Football Top 25 Rankings - Sept. 15

There’s a new team at the helm of the latest California high school football top 25 rankings. With Mater Dei suffering their first loss in 22 games, St. John Bosco takes over as the Golden State’s number one team. Here’s the rest of the list according to Massey.
The Massey Ratings, officially used during the BCS era, is a model that ranks sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule, and margin of victory.
1. St. John Bosco Braves
The top team in California high school football remains perfect after four games. Though they had a close call against Maryland’s St. Frances Academy last week, they handily defeated Junipero Serra San Mateo 42-0. It’s St. John Bosco’s second shutout victory in four games, highlighting their dominance. The Braves can get their fifth consecutive win by defeating Hawaii’s St. Louis on September 19.
2. Mater Dei Monarchs
It’s uncharacteristic for the Monarchs to be turnover-prone in a game. Unfortunately, it led to their downfall against Centennial, 43-36. That defeat snapped Mater Dei’s 21-game winning streak dating back to the 2023 season. Despite that defeat, Kayden Dixon-Wyatt was superb, finishing with 165 receiving yards and two touchdowns. The Monarchs can bounce back by defeating Nevada’s Bishop Gorman in a September 19 road game.
3. Mission Viejo Diablos
The Diablos improved to 4-0 after a 34-24 victory over Lincoln. Luke Fahey threw for 234 yards and two touchdowns, while Davonte Curtis had 84 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Mission Viejo can score its fifth consecutive win by defeating Tennessee’s McCallie School on September 19.
4. Centennial Huskies
The Huskies pulled off a shocker, defeating powerhouse Mater Dei 43-36. The Monarchs failed to contain Malaki Davis, who finished with 101 rushing yards and three touchdowns. Centennial can extend its winning streak to three games early in the 2025 California high school football season if it defeats Rancho Cucamonga on September 19.
5. Sierra Canyon Trailblazers
The Trailblazers surrendered some points for the first time this season. However, Downey scored only seven points, far too few to stop Sierra Canyon from clinching their fourth consecutive win. Laird Finkel threw for 159 yards and two touchdowns, while Jaxsen Stokes rushed for 102 yards and two touchdowns. Meanwhile, De’Markus Barnes added 117 rushing yards and two touchdowns in the victory. The Trailblazers will try to keep their perfect record by defeating Orange Lutheran on September 18.

6. Santa Margarita Catholic Eagles
The Eagles earned their third consecutive victory via a 44-14 domination of Oaks Christian. Trace Johnson threw for 253 passing yards and three touchdowns, while Jaion Smith rushed for 122 rushing yards and three scores. Grant Mosley finished with seven receptions for 92 yards and a touchdown. Santa Margarita Catholic will continue its 2025 schedule against Bishop Gorman on September 27.
7. Orange Lutheran Lancers
After losing to the Basha Bears, the Lancers returned to the win column by defeating Junipero Serra Gardena. Reagan Toki threw for 227 passing yards and two touchdowns, while Nico Bland had 110 receiving yards and a touchdown. On defense, lineman Marcus Fakatou had six total tackles, including two tackles for losses and a sack. Orange Lutheran continues its 2025 California high school football schedule against Sierra Canyon on September 18.
8. De La Salle High School Spartans
The Spartans shut down their opponent for the second straight game. They haven’t allowed any of their first three foes to score in double digits, and De La Salle can continue that streak against Grant Union on September 19.
9. Folsom Bulldogs
The Bulldogs bounced back from their loss to Mission Viejo with a 49-7 victory against Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep. Folsom will carry a 3-1 record as they play against Rocklin on September 19.
10. Los Alamitos Griffins
The Griffins have won their first five games in the 2025 California high school football season. Los Alamitos defeated St. Paul, 48-14, giving them a better start than their first five games in 2024. More importantly, they are only one away from matching their 2024 win total. The Griffins will proceed to their September 19 game against Granite Hills.
