Beatrice High School in Lincoln, Nebraska honored Philadelphia Eagles center Cam Jurgens by naming its football field after him. As 1011Now’s Kevin Sjuts and Chase Matteson wrote, the school revealed its new name eight years after Jurgens played his final game for the Orangemen.

Cam Jurgens Field is an honor fitting for the athlete who was a three-time All-State selection while representing the school. However, he played linebacker and tight end for the Orangemen and suited up for track and field and basketball as well.

While seeing his name on the field give Jurgens a sense of pride, he jokingly recalled the times when he broke his ankle and puked all over the field. He also commented on how big his name is on the field.

As Jurgens said in a video shared by 1011 Sports Anchor Chase Matteson, he never thought of having the football field named after him. However, in addition to his impressive run with the Orangemen, it’s his volume of work after high school that made him a worthy choice.

Cam Jurgens stayed in-state for college football, playing for the Nebraska Cornhuskers. It was here that he transitioned from being a two-way player to an offensive lineman. He became a three-year starter for the Huskers and earned Third Team All-Big Ten honors in his final year at Lincoln. Likewise, he also competed in the shot put for Nebraska for two seasons.

This versatility prompted the Eagles to select him in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft. Jurgens didn’t earn his stripes immediately because he played behind All-Pro center Jason Kelce. However, he proved his worth after the veteran lineman retired. In his first season as a full-fledged starter, Jurgens earned his first Pro Bowl selection and helped the Eagles win Super Bowl LIX over the Kansas City Chiefs.

After proving his worth, the Eagles left no doubt in keeping Cam Jurgens, signing him to a four-year, $68 million contract extension.
