The old cliche saying is what goes around, comes around.

DeSoto (Texas) blew out Creekside (Georgia) last year when the Seminoles visited the Lone Star State, dominating in every single aspect of the game in a 70-0 destruction. The loss was one the Seminoles wouldn’t forget and Saturday afternoon, it was their time to turn the tables on the visiting Eagles.

Creekside used a masterful first half of offense to race out ahead to a 21-point halftime lead and never looked back in a 70-28 victory over DeSoto. The Seminoles improved to 3-0 on the season ahead of a bye week before facing Forest Park on Sep. 12.

The Seminoles made sure they reciprocated last year’s result

To get embarrassed the way Creekside (1-0) did a year ago was surprising for a program that had reached Georgia’s Class 5A state championship game in 2023 and 2024. With the way the Seminoles have played in the first couple of games, though, it might not be that surprising that they wanted to show folks the changes from last season to present.

What made this result the way it was stemmed from how DeSoto (0-1) didn’t let off the gas pedal a year ago and with Creekside proverbially smelling blood in the water, the pounced and took advantage of what became their best offensive output of the season so far. It’s early, but Creekside is making it be known they will be a threat to making another run to the state championship game.

Creekside had a bevy of offensive standouts chip in

When you score 70 points, I mean, where do you exactly start?

From scoring 35 points in one half to finishing the contest with the aforementioned total, you’d imagine that there was plenty of players that can be given credit for their showings on the field.

Handing out superlatives to Creekside from their performance against DeSoto could be endless as they had a myriad of players who stood out. From Ced Kelley to Gary Walker to Cayden Benson to Bam Henderson, there was a stable of offensive standouts to name.

Kelley and Walker had entered the game both over 240-plus yards rushing and exited breaking the 300 plateau. Benson behind center had his best game of the season, getting the ball out quickly to his playmakers and letting them create.

This is a dangerous Creekside offense right now, averaging a cool 50 points per game. Defensive coordinators beware, the Seminoles have something cooking over in Fairburn, Georgia.

Huge drop off for DeSoto loading?

You hate to overreact after just one game, but when it’s the opener and 70 points is scored on your team, many back in Texas are wondering what exactly happened to the 3-time UIL state champions.

But then you can use the case of Creekside, who lost last year in a 70-0 rout, and bounced back just fine in reaching a state championship game. Things definitely don’t get any easier next week for the Eagles as they prepare for a showdown in Fort Worth against North Crowley (1-0), who escaped with a 22-18 win over Lancaster on Thursday.

Both the Eagles and Panthers may find out a lot more about themselves in that very game. What the early returns from Week 1 of Texas high school football is telling us is don’t trust anything as everyone should expect the unexpected.
