The Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame will welcome its newest members on June 28, and they include legendary individuals. One of those icons is Danny Granger, who was a high school basketball sensation before reaching the National Basketball Association.

Granger played for four years at Grace King High School in Metairie, averaging 24.3 points, 12 rebounds, and 5.5 blocks per game during his senior season. He also earned a McDonald’s All-American nomination before his final year with the Fighting Irish.

After high school, Danny Granger played for the Bradley Braves and made the Missouri Valley Conference All-Freshman team. However, he announced his transfer to New Mexico before his sophomore season ended.

Granger’s game took off during his junior year, leading the Lobos in points (19.5), rebounds (9), steals (1.32), and blocks (1.4) per game. During his senior year, he became the only NCAA player to average at least 18 points, eight rebounds, two blocks, two assists, and two steals per game.

After playing for New Mexico, the Indiana Pacers selected him with the 17th overall pick in the 2005 NBA Draft. It’s with the Pacers where Granger earned his lone All-Star appearance and Most Improved Player award. Granger retired in 2015 after playing for the Los Angeles Clippers and the Miami Heat.

Besides Danny Granger, long-time high school football coach Dale Weiner will join him in the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame. Weiner won 317 victories and a state championship at Catholic High School. He also helped Travis Minor, Donnie Jones, Brandon Harrison, Zach Tom, and Clyde Edwards-Helaire start their journey to the NFL.

Also included in the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2025 are April Burkholder, Bobby Soileau, Dale Weiner, Danny Broussard, Ed Daniels, Glenn Guilbeau, Herb Vincent, Joe Scheuermann, and Vickie Johnson. Super Bowl champion Andrew Whitworth and NCAA National Champion Nick Saban are also part of the class.
