Defense was optional last Friday in a big Texas high school football tilt between Atascocita and C.E. King.

Both teams scored at least two touchdowns in all four quarters. King entered halftime with a 35-28 lead, scored twice in the third quarter and then put it away with a 21-point fourth quarter, claiming a 70-55 victory.

The King offense leaned heavily on the run game, totaling 582 rushing yards in the win, according to MaxPreps. Spearheading the rushing attack was senior Dionne Sims, who put together a true career performance.

The 5-foot-10, 170-pounder toted the rock 32 times on Friday and turned those carries into 435 yards and five touchdowns. He also caught one pass and took it 34 yards to the house for a sixth score. According to the Houston Chronicle’s Jon Poorman, the 435 rushing yards are good for 10th all-time in a game in UIL Houston high school football history.

Sims averaged over 13 yards per carry in the win, which saw the Panthers improve to 3-1 on the season. He’s on pace to smash his numbers put up as a junior last fall. In 10 games last fall, Sims rushed for over 1,000 yards and 13 touchdowns.

The senior, who also runs track for the Panthers, is committed to Stephen F. Austin. He chose the in-state Lumberjacks in June despite also holding offers from the likes of UTSA, Houston, Arizona and Illinois.

Sims is the No. 121 running back prospect and No. 252 player in the Lone Star State in the 2026 cycle, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all major recruiting media companies.

Through four games, C.E. King is now averaging 50 points per game. The Panthers’ lone loss came in a 47-40 battle against Dickinson on Sept. 5. They to action this Friday against 3-1 Goose Creek Memorial.

King is now the No. 42 team in Texas, according to the Massey Ratings. It has a massive opportunity next week on Oct. 9, as it heads to Summer Creek, the No. 9 team in the state. The top-10 Bulldogs and No. 15 North Shore are the biggest matchups left on its regular-season schedule.
