The 2025 Iowa high school football season is over and state championships have been crowned. While the list is mostly the same as last week, one team entered the classification for the first time. Here is the final ranking of the Hawkeye State’s top 25 teams, courtesy of Massey.

1. Dowling Catholic Maroons

The Maroons defeated Liberty to capture the Iowa high school football Class 5A state championship. Ian Middleton led the way with 206 rushing yards and two touchdowns. On defense, Ryan Bobo completed three of Dowling Catholic’s eight sacks. The Maroons finish the season at 12-1, with their only loss coming against Valley. Meanwhile, three-star WR Jeffrey Roberts will now transition to Iowa State.

2. Xavier Saints

The Saints took home the Class 4A state title after their 31-6 win over Pella. Carter Hoffman rushed for 207 yards and three touchdowns, while Beau Morio had two of Xavier’s four sacks. The Saints finish the 2025 season with a perfect 13-0 record, a massive improvement from their 7-4 standing last year. To highlight their dominance, only two of their games were decided by one possession.

3. Valley Tigers

The Tigers ended the 2025 Iowa high school football season with a loss to Dowling Catholic in the Class 5A semifinals. They closed the season at 9-3, one win fewer than their mark last year. Coincidentally, Valley lost to Dowling Catholic and Ankeny for two consecutive years.

4. Liberty Lightning

The Lightning ended their season with a runner-up finish in the Class 5A playoffs. In their 27-10 loss to Dowling Catholic, Reece Rettig and Adrian Clerry connected for a touchdown pass. Liberty finished the season with a 11-2 record, with their other loss coming against Johnston.

5. West Lyon Wildcats

The Wildcats defeated Regina Catholic in overtime for their second consecutive Iowa high school football Class 1A state championship. Evan Hildring rushed for 112 yards and two touchdowns, while Jaxton DeJong completed a touchdown pass to Easton DeJong. Meanwhile, Ben Meyer generated two of West Lyon’s five sacks.
