Five mind-blowing high school football stats from the weekend

As the high school football season begins to take shape around the country, more games are going to played and with that, more opportunities for eye-popping numbers, crazy statistics and impressive streaks to stand out.
Here are the numbers that stood out the most to us from last week.
967
Entering the 2025 season, the Valdosta (Ga.) Wildcats were tied with Massillon (Ohio) Washington for the all-time lead in wins as a high school football program at 965. Two weeks into the season and Valdosta has reclaimed the lead as the country's winningest high school football program after a 60-14 rout of Mundy's Mill.
The Wildcats, who are under the watch of head coach Shelton Felton, opened up the regular season at home last week with a dominating 63-14 dismantling of Tucker. With the two victories, Valdosta sits aline at the top of the charts at 967 victories.
Up next for Valdosta is a matchup against Dougherty before welcoming Jesuit (Fla.) and Florida four-star quarterback commitment Will Griffin into town on Sept. 5.
501
Rivals compiles a list of standout quarterback performances week in and week out, but one that stood out is a 501-yard passing day from Lehman Catholic starter Turner Lachey.
Lachey, who also plays on the school's baseball team, had himself a career day in the Cavaliers' 56-35 win over St. John's last week. The 5-foot-11, 175-pound signal caller completed 22 of 27 passes for 501 yards and eight touchdowns.
It was, essentially, a perfect quarterback day as Lachey easily surpassed his previous individual-high of 395 yards.
423
Talawanda junior tailback Lance Cantrell rushed for a total of 135 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries last season.

He surpassed those numbers on Friday. By a lot. The bruising running back rushed for 423 yards on 26 attempts and scored three touchdowns in Talawanda's 51-21 victory over Taylor.
Cantrell could be in for a major 2025 high school football season.

The Lely-Golden Gate game was mercifully called at halftime. The weather certainly played a large part in that decision, but so did the scoreboard.
Lely dominated the first two quarters of play and entered the break up 62-0. Last season against Golden Gate, the Titans scored 66 points in four quarters.
This isn't all that unusual for Lely. The team rolled up 90 points in a win over Barron Collier last year.

Desert Mirage (Calif.) senior running back Omar Martinez helped lead his team to a 70-38 victory over Desert Chapel when he rushed for 259 yards on 15 carries and scored a whopping eight touchdowns.
If this first outing is a sign of what's to come, Martinez could be a scoring machine this fall for the Rams.
