Former NFL quarterback Quincy Carter starred at Southwest DeKalb (Georgia) before playing at the University of Georgia, so there’s plenty of ties already to the Peach State when it comes to football.

On Thursday, Carter announced on X, formerly known as Twitter, that he had completed the Georgia High School Association’s (GHSA) certificate of completion to officially become a head football coach in the state.

GOD IS THE GREATEST. I Can Officially Be a High School Head Coach in The State of Georgia…”

Back in 1995, Carter quarterbacked the Panthers to the GHSA’s AAAA state championship, finishing with USA Today honors and totaled 5,939 total yards and 69 touchdowns during his time at Southwest DeKalb.

After his high school playing days, Carter went on to star in Athens for the Bulldogs from 1998-2000, where the quarterback in three seasons threw for 6,447 yards and 35 scores.

Carter declared for the 2001 NFL Draft and ended up becoming a 2nd round, 53rd overall pick by the Dallas Cowboys. The signal caller would end up playing four seasons in the NFL between the Cowboys and New York Jets, completing 542 of 960 passes for 6,337 yards and 32 touchdown passes.

With numerous head coaching vacancies popping up around the state of Georgia now that the 2025 regular season has concluded, Carter could see himself leading a team sooner rather than later now that he’s officially certified to become a head coach within the state.
