Former NFL QB Kordell Stewart joins Georgia high school football team's coaching staff

Former National Football League quarterback Kordell Stewart will be imparting his football wisdom to the Georgia high school football team, South Forsyth War Eagles. He will be joining head coach James Thomson’s coaching staff as a volunteer offensive coordinator.
In a video uploaded on the FCN Sports account on X/Twitter, Stewart said, “This will be a great challenge, to come up here and participate and taking my experience as a player like they are now, I once was, to now becoming a coach and giving all those concepts and ideas, and football IQ.”
South Forsyth struggled in the past two seasons, finishing with a 1-9 record in 2023 and 2-8 last year. As Kordell Stewart commented, “Only three wins out of 20 games. That’s a lot of work that needs to be put in. It’s not saying the kids aren’t capable. It’s just being able to restructure the mindset. The kids are smart, and we have to translate that over to the intellectual level of being a football player on the football field.”
Regarding his coaching approach, the quarterback who played for three NFL teams in 11 seasons said, “For me, as a former player, it’s all about the approach. We have coaches and we have teachers. I like to consider myself a teacher.”

Kordell Stewart played high school football for Louisiana’s John Ehret Patriots before attending the University of Colorado. In his final year with the Buffaloes, he became a First Team All-Big Eight member and a Second Team All-American. Those credentials must have convinced the Pittsburgh Steelers to select him in the second round of the 1995 NFL Draft.
Stewart played his first eight seasons with the Steelers, earning Pro Bowl honors in 2001. Likewise, he earned the nickname “Slash” from the late Steelers color commentator Myron Cope because he could play multiple positions.
After his stint with the Steelers, Kordell Stewart played one season with the Chicago Bears. He finished his NFL career after spending two more seasons with the Baltimore Ravens.
