While four-star quarterback Brady Edmunds has two years of high school football eligibility left, he will need all the wisdom he can get before he joins the Ohio State Buckeyes. Luckily for the incoming junior, he heard inspiring words from Pro Football Hall of Famer Tony Gonzalez.

Edmunds shared on his X/Twitter a photo of himself with the tight end who played in 17 NFL seasons. Meanwhile, Edmunds captioned his post, “Huntington Beach football legend! Appreciate @TonyGonzalez88 for coming by and speaking to my team and I!”

Like Brady Edmunds, Tony Gonzalez also played for Huntington Beach High School before attending the University of California, Berkeley. While Gonzalez also played basketball for the Golden Bears, it was in football where he found a rosy future.

After playing for Cal, the Kansas City Chiefs selected Gonzalez with the 13th overall pick in the 1997 NFL Draft. Throughout his 12-season tenure with the Chiefs, Gonzalez earned nine All-Pro (five First-Team) and ten Pro Bowl selections.

Gonzalez finished his career with the Atlanta Falcons. He became an NFL 100th Anniversary All-Time Team member after finishing his career with the most receiving yards (15,127) and receptions (1,325) among tight ends.

Meanwhile, Brady Edmunds finished his sophomore year with 217 completions for 3,222 passing yards and 36 touchdowns. Those numbers are significantly better than his freshman year statistics (164 passes, 2,691 yards, 24 touchdowns).

Before the 2025-26 season starts, Edmunds ranks fifth among Class of 2027 quarterbacks. He is also California’s eighth-best prospect and 77th-best in the nation. Likewise, his output helped Huntington Beach finish with a 7-5 record last season and 6-7 in 2023-24.

In addition to Ohio State, Brady Edmunds also received offers from Texas, Arizona State, Washington, SMU, Michigan, Penn State, Virginia Tech, UNLV, UConn, Florida State, Washington State, Arkansas, Louisville, Oregon, Auburn, Georgia, USC, Ole Miss, Alabama, and Notre Dame, among others.
