Garinger (N.C.) football snaps 48-game losing skid

One of the longest losing streaks in the country came to an end last week in North Carolina.
Garinger (1-0) went into the first week of high school football play in North Carolina and snapped a 48-game losing skid with a 36-6 victory over Winston-Salem Prep. With the win, the Wildcats halted a losing streak that had dated back to the 2019 season.
“It’s an awesome feeling, especially for the kids,” Garinger first-year head coach Jupiter Wilson said via The Charlotte Observer. “Just to see them have things manifest. … I knew things were changing, and to come out here and get that win on Friday night and to really be able to say to people, ‘Things are changing out here.’ I’m just proud of the kids.”
According to The Charlotte Observer report, running back Zykerion Pharr led the way with a game-high 184 yards and scored three touchdowns for the Wildcats.
“We’ve got a good coach here now, and every day in practice the energy is just different. I can feel it,” Pharr said via the report. “The coaches are teaching me more and more every day, and I’m learning from them. If I can keep this up, I can really go somewhere.”
