One of Georgia’s most competitive high school football regions will feature at least one new face next season.

Mountain View (Ga.) head coach John Poitevint has resigned from his position after six years at the helm, according to the Gwinnett Daily Post. Poitevint was 17-46 during his tenure with the program, but that included state playoff appearances in 2021, 2022 and 2023.

Each of those ended with a first-round loss.

Over the past two season though, the Bears have struggled to a 3-17 overall record and a 3-9 mark in AAAAAA Region 8, one of the state’s toughest. Among the yearly opponents on Mountain View’s schedule are perennial state title contender Buford, as well as traditional football powerhouses Collins Hill and Mill Creek.

The Bears only won one game in 2025, a 34-20 victory over Discovery, which finished its season winless.

“It’s time for a new chapter in my life,” Poitevint told the Daily Post. “I’m very thankful to Mr. (Keith) Chaney and Wayne Smith for giving me this opportunity six years ago. I have no regrets. To my current and former players and coaches, thank you for all your hard work and dedication to the program. It’s been a blessing to work alongside of you. Better days are ahead for the Bears.”
