In the blink of an eye, we’re nearly at the halfway point of the regular season in Georgia high school football. A handful of schools in the Peach State will be playing their sixth games of the year this coming weekend, and eyes are already on the playoff push coming over the next few months.

As for this week’s updated rankings, No. 1 Grayson stays atop the list after its 4-0 start, followed by a handful of perennial powers. But we saw some shakeup elsewhere after a few surprising losses, and those teams will be looking to get back on track and move up again in the rankings.

Heading into another pivotal week, here’s where things stand in Georgia according to the Massey High School Football Ratings:

1. Grayson Rams (4-0)

The Rams got a well-deserved bye week after dispatching Mallard Creek (N.C.) on September 5. They don’t project to play another state-ranked team during the rest of the regular season, but will need to be on upset alert as everyone will be looking to take down the defending state champs.

2. Buford Wolves (4-0)

Facing its third ranked opponent in four games, the Wolves slugged out a 34-26 win over then-No. 7 Douglas County on Friday night. In a game that featured tons of Division I talent on both sides of the ball. Buford made enough plays down the stretch to hold onto their undefeated record. Nebraska quarterback commit Dayton Raiola threw for a touchdown while, Tyriq Green (Georgia) and Dylan McCoy (NC State) each rushed for a pair of scores.

3. Carrollton Trojans (5-0)

In a battle of top-10 teams, Carrollton had no problem dispatching Gainesville in a 43-21 blowout victory. Carrollton running back Cam Wood rushed for 149 yards and four touchdowns, and the Trojans scored 21 unanswered points in the second half to pull away. Now they’ll turn around this week to face a tough Birmingham (Ala.) Parker squad, led by Texas four-star defensive line commit Vodney Cleveland.

4. Thomas County Central Yellow Jackets (5-0)

The Yellow Jackets have run into little resistance early in the season, with their latest coming in a 49-0 romp over Bainbridge on Friday night. In their first five games, TCC has outscored its opponents by a combined score of 288-27. The schedule will get a lot tougher next week though, as they welcome No. 17 Lee County for a huge showdown between ranked squads.

5. Langston Hughes Panthers (4-0)

After a tough-fought win over No. 10 Douglas County last weekend, the Panthers cruised on Friday night to a 42-0 win over Banneker. Florida running back commit Carsyn Baker rushed for 89 yards and a touchdown on seven carries, while Langston Hughes’ defense picked off the Trojans’ twice en route to the shutout win.
