Georgia High School Football Rankings: Top 25 Teams - Sept. 8

After a weekend of Georgia high school football that featured dominant wins by some of the state’s top teams, the latest rankings have been released.
Grayson still sits atop the list after routing North Carolina powerhouse Mallard Creek, but there has been some other shakeups within the top 10 after a couple of key matchups. And we could see more of the same this weekend with five ranked matchups on the slate, headlined by a massive showdown between No. 2 Buford and No. 9 Douglas County.
Heading into Week 4, here’s a look at the top 25 teams in the Peach State:
1. Grayson Rams (4-0)
Previous Ranking: No. 1
Despite losing star quarterback Travis Burgess for the season due to injury, Grayson has continued to roll to an undefeated 4-0 mark. The Rams rolled over one of North Carolina’s top teams — Mallard Creek — on Friday night in a 63-13 rout. They jumped out to a 21-0 lead after the first quarter, then tacked on two touchdowns apiece in the final three frames to account for the 50-point win. Grayson is now favored to win each of their final six games by 28+ points, according to the Massey Ratings.
2. Buford Wolves (3-0)
Previous Ranking: No. 2
Boasting one of the state’s premier defenses, Buford now sits at 3-0 and right on the heels of Grayson for the state’s No. 1 ranking. The Wolves opened the season with a trio of top-25 opponents, and after a hard-fought win over Milton in Week 0, they’ve rolled the last two weeks. Their latest effort was a 65-21 romp over previously unbeaten No. 15 Roswell on Friday night. After jumping out to a 21-0 lead, Buford had to fend off a second-quarter onslaught by Roswell and led by two touchdowns going into the break. From there, Dayton Raiola and Tyriq Green poured it on, and the rout ensued. Raiola finished 15-for-23 for 209 yards and four touchdowns, while Green added 81 rushing yards on just four carries — along with a pick-six.
3. Thomas County Central Yellow Jackets (4-0)
Previous Ranking: No. 4
The Yellow Jackets came into Friday’s showdown with rival Thomasville having won decisively each of the past two years. Thomasville came into the game undefeated, but the Bulldogs left with their tails between their legs after Thomas County Central rolled to a 55-7 demolition of their longtime rivals. TCC jumped out to a 45-7 lead at halftime and never relented on the defensive side, moving to 4-0 and setting up a huge undefeated showdown with No. 7 Lee County in a few weeks.
4. Carrollton Trojans (4-0)
Previous Ranking: No. 3
Carrollton wasn’t going to be caught looking ahead this weekend, as the Trojans dominated Lithia Springs in a 63-0 blowout. Star freshman quarterback CJ Cypher passed for 147 yards and three touchdowns while wideout Ryan Mosley (Georgia commit) hauled in five catches for 115 yards and two touchdowns. The meat of the Trojans’ schedule begins this week with a top-10 showdown on the road against Gainesville before they head to Alabama and face an undefeated Birmingham Parker squad.
5. Langston Hughes Panthers (3-0)
Previous Ranking: No. 8
The Panthers passed their first major test of the season with flying colors, beating a top-10 Douglas County squad 44-31 on Friday night. Langston Hughes had lost five of the past six meetings in the rivalry series, but used an explosive offense to turn the tide in this series. Quarterback Darnell Kelly threw for 339 yards and four touchdowns while completing 78 of his passes, while Florida four-star running back commit Carsyn Baker add 184 yards of his own. The Panthers’ offense has been among the most prolific in the state this season, averaging 44 points per contest.
