Only one week remains in the high school football season in Georgia, as 16 teams will meet in downtown Atlanta for the Georgia High School Association (GHSA) state championships at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Carrollton still remains as the state’s No. 1 team as they head into Tuesday night’s Class 6A state championship showdown with No. 2 Buford, which many people would view as a de factor national title game. Who else makes it into the latest set of Georgia high school football rankings?

The Massey Ratings, officially used during the BCS era, is a model that ranks sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule, and margin of victory.

Here is the latest Georgia high school football Top 25 rankings, according to Massey as of Dec. 15.

1. Carrollton Trojans (14-0)

Sitting at the top of the rankings heading into Tuesday night’s Class 6A state championship game is the Carrollton Trojans as they will take on No. 2 Buford.

There’s a growing consensus that tomorrow night’s game could decide a national champion. Trojans’ head coach Joey King has guided the team through a difficult schedule that has included wins over Parker (Ala.), Gainesville and Grayson.

Now, Carrollton has a liegitimate chance to solidify themselves as one of the best in the country with a victory.

2. Buford Wolves (14-0)

Coming in right behind Carrollton are the Buford Wolves as the two teams will square off on Tuesday night for Georgia’s Class 6A state championship.

The Wolves’ defense has been one of the best in the country, only yielded 9.7 points per game (137 points). Now Buford will have their toughest test of the season when they take on Carrollton tomorrow night in a game that will have national implications to the highest extent.

3. Thomas County Central Yellow Jackets (14-0)

Thomas County Central Yellow Jackets (14-0) have been playing as good as anyone as they cruised to a 49-28 victory over Roswell last week in a Class 5A state semifinal.

Wake Forest signee Christian Lawrence has been one of the best running backs all season long for the Yellow Jackets as the senior has rushed for 1,836 yards on 191 carries and found the endzone 24 times. Now Thomas County Central will look to cap their season undefeated on Wednesday night in the 5A title game against Gainesville.

4. Creekside Seminoles (14-0)

When it comes to top teams out of the Peach State, the Creekside Indians might be the most red-hot team right now heading into tonight’s Class 4A state championship.

The Indians opened up the season with an impressive 70-28 throttling of DeSoto and has been on a roll ever since. Creekside has out-scored opponents 803-86 this season behind an offense that’s averaging 57.3 points per game.

Senior quarterback Cayden Benson has totaled over 4,000 all-purpose yards and 47 total touchdowns.

5. Grayson Rams (12-1)

The Grayson Rams (12-1) had reached the third round of the Georgia Class 6A playoffs, but fell to No. 1 Carrollton in a 34-14 decision.

The Rams made a strong run through the season despite losing North Carolina signee Travis Burgess for most of the season due to injury. Grayson had looked like they would be able to defend their title, nonetheless, as the offense had continued to make strides throughout the season.

Texas five-star signee Tyler Atkinson played very well for the Rams in the front seven, racking up 91 tackles, 27 for a loss and 10 sacks. Atkinson ended up being named the state’s Gatorade Player of the Year.
