High School Football: No. 17 Santa Margarita takes down No. 11 Sierra Canyon

Santa Margarita Catholic head coach Carson Palmer knew the weather was going to be potentially nasty heading into Friday’s CIF Southern Section high school football tilt with No. 11 ranked Sierra Canyon.
Having prepared his team during the off-season and all week long for what was to come, the Eagles were ready for the night ahead. No. 17 Santa Margarita battled through the poor weather conditions and were able to pull off a 21-9 win over previously undefeated Sierra Canyon.
“Couldn’t be more proud,” Palmer said in an interview after the game. “We were ready for this weather. We were ready for this situation. We practiced it in the off-season. We practiced wet ball drills all week long. We knew it was going to be nasty, but we didn’t know it was going to be raining like this.”
Sierra Canyon (10-1) held strong to a 3-0 lead for most of the first half until Tulane commit Trace Johnson connected on a touchdown pass to Ryan Clark, sending the Eagles into the half with a 7-3 advantage.
