Over the past two and a half decades, no high school football program in the state of Texas has been more dominant than Aledo.

The Fort Worth-area powerhouse holds the University Interscholastic League (UIL) record with 12 state championships — no other program in the state has more than nine in their history. All of have come since 1998, followed by titles in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2016, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2022 and 2023.

They’re the only school in the state to ever three-peat on two different occasions, and since 2006 no freshman class has ever not seen a state title during their time in the program.

But all of that might not even be the most impressive thing about the Bearcats’ program. While the postseason results are incredible, what Aledo has done during district play is equally as impressive. Since 2007, they haven’t lost a single district game, riding a streak than spans 132 games, according to Matt Stepp of Dave Campbell’s Texas Football. Their 38-14 win over Alvarado on Oct. 14, 2007 started the streak, and it has now reached 18 years without a district loss.

And what’s potentially most impressive is that they’ve done it without having dozens of Division I players on their roster each year like some other programs in the state. In that 18-year span, the number of blue-chip prospects to come through Aledo can be counted on two hands.

But across multiple different head coaches, they’ve dominated opponents inside their district and out. Through five games this season, they’ve outscored opponents 205-42. The Bearcats will get one of their biggest challenges of the season this weekend though, traveling to face district rival Ryan, who comes into the game 4-0.

The Raiders lost the first regular season matchup last season 42-27, but got their revenue in the state playoffs by knocking off Aledo 31-21. It also ended the Bearcats’ quest for an unprecedented third three-peat.

Both are again among the best in 5A-Division 1, making for what should be one of the best matchups of the weekend around the Lone Star State.
