Iowa High School Football Rankings: Top 25 Teams - Oct. 14

The high school football season continued in Iowa last week, as many of the top programs in the Hawkeye State were in action. Plenty of interesting results followed.
Another jam-packed slate is on deck as teams continue their quests for a state title. Below are the top 25 Iowa high school football teams, according to the Massey Ratings, as of Oct. 14.
1. Waukee Northwest Wolves
Iowa high school football’s best team improved to 7-0 after defeating Southeast Polk 38-7. Mack Heitland threw for 250 yards and a touchdown to Isaiah Oliver. Ryan Woodruff had 115 rushing yards and three touchdowns, while Jordon Green finished with 160 receiving yards. Waukee Northwest will host Waukee on October 17.
2. Dowling Catholic Maroons
The Maroons are on a six-game winning streak after defeating Waukee 30-14. Joey Nahas threw for 148 yards and two touchdowns, while Ian Middleton rushed for 201 yards and a couple of scores. Sam Drexler and Jeffrey Roberts each had a touchdown catch. On defense, Middleton collected 1.5 sacks, while Ryan Bobo had 2.5. Dowling Catholic can improve to 7-1 by defeating Ankeny Centennial on the 17th.
3. Valley Tigers
The Tigers have won five in a row after a 49-0 shutout against Sioux City North. Drake DeGroote touchdown passes to Ben Fleming and Jayden McGregory, who finished with 103 receiving yards. Meanwhile, Blake Dorenkamp had a couple of rushing TDs. The Valley defense also contributed two sacks and two interceptions. The Tigers will play against Ankeny on the 17th.
4. West Lyon Wildcats
The Wildcats have a spotless record seven games into the 2025 Iowa high school football season. They dominated MVAOCOU, 49-7, thanks largely to a ground attack that generated 280 rushing yards and five touchdowns. Likewise, Mason McCarty finished with 53 receiving yards and a touchdown. West Lyon’s 2025 Iowa high school football season will continue with an October 17 game against Lawton-Bronson.
5. Clear Lake Lions
The Lions completed their third shutout victory this season. In their 56-0 win against Iowa Falls-Alden, Sam Dodge finished with 113 rushing yards and four touchdowns. Jaxson McIntire had 134 passing yards, 40 rushing yards, and three touchdowns. Clear Lake will visit Charles City for their October 17 games.
6. Liberty Lightning
Liberty struck lightning against Pleasant Valley to extend their winning streak to three games. The Lightning’s ground game was humming, as Reece Rettig (158 rushing yards, one touchdown) and Brody Beaver (156 yards, two TDs) dusted off the Spartans defense. Liberty can improve to 7-1 by defeating Iowa City High on the 17th.

7. Xavier Saints
The Saints made light work of Waterloo East, improving their record to 7-0. In that 61-18 blowout win, Carter Hoffman led the way on offense with 96 rushing yards and three touchdowns. Xavier’s 2025 Iowa high school football season continues with a home game against Decorah.
8. Ankeny Hawks
After losing to Johnston, the Hawks bounced back with a 55-3 demolition of Ames. Kael Roush threw two touchdown passes, while Daniel Larmie had 142 rushing yards and three touchdowns. Owen Fischer had a couple of TDs and 72 receiving yards. On defense, Tyton Westemeier completed two sacks, while Ace Parton added 1.5. Ankeny can improve to 6-2 for the season by defeating Valley on the 17th.
9. Johnston Dragons
The Dragons’ four-game winning streak ended at Sioux City East’s hands. Despite the loss, Trevin Helming threw for two touchdowns. Johnston can recover with a win against Southeast Polk on the 17th.
10. Southeast Polk Rams
In their loss to Waukee Northwest, Josh Ehrich’s 32-yard touchdown run and a PAT by Samer Arafa were Southeast Polk’s total points. Their next stop in the 2025 Iowa high school football season is a home game versus Johnston.
