Iowa High School Football Rankings: Top 25 Teams - Oct. 7

The high school football season continued in Iowa last week, as many of the top programs in the Hawkeye State were in action.

Another jam-packed slate is on deck as teams continue their quests for a state title. Below are the top 25 Iowa high school football teams, according to the Massey Ratings, as of Oct. 7.

1. Dowling Catholic Maroons

The Maroons pushed their winning streak to five games after a 34-0 shutout victory against Kennedy. Joey Nahas threw for 205 passing yards and three touchdowns, while Ian Middleton registered 115 rushing yards. Jeffrey Roberts had 86 receiving yards and two TDs. Meanwhile, the Dowling Catholic defense generated three sacks and an interception. The Maroons will continue their 2025 Iowa high school football schedule against Waukee on October 10.

2. Waukee Northwest Wolves

The Wolves improved to 6-0 after an impressive 70-0 victory against Ottumwa. Mack Heitland had 274 passing yards and three touchdowns, while Paulo Tobongye rushed for 72 yards and two touchdowns. Jordon Green made five receptions for 123 yards and three TDs. Waukee Northwest’s defense registered three sacks and two interceptions. The Wolves can get their seventh consecutive victory by defeating Southeast Polk on October 10.

3. West Lyon Wildcats

The Wildcats remained perfect after their first six games. Their latest conquest is a 48-7 drubbing of Ridge View, in which West Lyon generated 392 rushing yards and five touchdowns. On defense, Carter Metzger had two sacks. The Wildcats continue their schedule against MVAOCOU on October 10.

4. Valley Tigers

The Tigers are on a four-game winning streak after a 24-7 win against Ankeny Centennial. Drake DeGroote scored three touchdowns, while Blake Dorenkamp had 129 rushing yards. Valley will continue the 2025 Iowa high school football season against Sioux City North on the 10th.

5. Johnston Dragons

The Dragons are on a four-game winning streak following their 30-21 victory against Ankeny. Trevin Helming threw three touchdowns, while Emri Jones rushed for 219 yards and a touchdown. Tino Daye Jr. caught 12 passes for 138 yards and two TDs. Johnston faces Sioux City East on the 10th.

6. Xavier Saints

The Saints are still spotless through six games. In their 42-21 victory against Waverly-Shell Rock, Cash Parks passed for 190 yards and three touchdowns, while Carter Hoffman collected 96 rushing yards and two TDs. Xavier will travel to face Waterloo East on October 10.

7. Clear Lake Lions

The Lions limited their opponents to seven points or less for the fifth time in the 2025 Iowa high school football season. In their 35-7 beating of Benton Community, Sam Dodge had 117 rushing yards and a touchdown, while Jaxson McIntire had a couple of rushing TDs. Meanwhile, the Clear Lake defense scored touchdowns off two interceptions. The Lions can stay undefeated by beating Iowa Falls-Alden on the 10th.

8. Southeast Polk Rams

The Rams have their first win streak this year after defeating Iowa City High 56-7. Drew Thompson (114 rushing yards, three touchdowns) and Stanley Cooper (117 yards, one TD) powered the Southeast Polk run game. On defense, Jaidyn Perry made three interceptions, while Thomas Dixon made a sack. The Rams will host Waukee Northwest on the 10th.

9. Liberty Lightning

The Lightning won five of their first six games after defeating Davenport Central. Reece Rettig threw for 244 passing yards and three touchdowns, while Jordan Schroeder had 70 receiving yards and two TDs. On defense, Logan Laubenthal made two interceptions, while Hank Thompson generated 1.5 sacks. Liberty will visit Pleasant Valley on October 10.

10. Ankeny Hawks

In their loss to Johnston, Kael Roush threw a couple of touchdowns, both caught by Andrew Brandhorst. Meanwhile, La’Marious Clark scored a touchdown off a fumble recovery. Ankeny will try to bounce back against Ames on the 10th.
