According to a report by the Columbus Dispatch, five-time state champion Ironton (OH) could be on the verge of missing out on the 2025 Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) playoffs due to removal.

Per the report, the OHSAA is currently deliberating on a final decision regarding possible punishments for the Fighting Tigers’ football program, stemming from alleged recruiting violations. Ironton won last year’s OHSAA Division V state championship.

WSAZ has reported that the OHSAA is currently “working through some issues” with Ironton, as they near making an announcement, which is set to come Saturday morning, according to NBC4 Columbus.

Football players from Ironton protested out front of the Ironton School Board office, protesting against the possible final decision to ban the Fighting Tigers from the OHSAA playoffs.

“We are out here fighting, for our right to be able to play in the state playoffs,” Ironton senior Zayne Williams said via a Ironton Tribune report. “It has been taken away from us by some individuals that haven’t got what they want in life and it has come back on these kids.”

Ironton is currently 8-1 on the season and is supposed to finish out the regular season tonight against Portsmouth at home.
