Quarterback Miles McCallop was groomed to take over from Braden Atkinson as Rolesville High School’s starting quarterback. He was the next man up after Atkinson played for Mercer, and Mason Horne graduated from high school.

It would have been massive shoes to fill after Atkinson finished his senior season, completing 68.3 percent of his passes for 3,925 passing yards and 53 touchdowns. Likewise, Rolesville finished fourth in the North Carolina On3 Composite Team Rankings.

However, Miles McCallop will transfer to Clinton for his final high school football season, as High School on SI’s Mike Duprez reported. The senior QB will be a part of a rebuild after some of Clinton’s top players joined former Cory Johnson in his transfer to South Carolina. That exodus to Marlboro County High School drastically affected the Dark Horses’ fate from 15-1 and the state championship game in 2023 to 2-8 last year.

Clinton hopes Miles McCallop will bring stability to their squad, especially because he came from a winning program. But his reason for transferring isn’t just about football. Instead, the family played a role in his decision because, as Duprez revealed, the McCallop family made the move to be closer to his grandmother, who underwent heart surgery.

Football-wise, McCallop is learning the ropes of the Clinton offense as he participates in 7-on-7 practices. He’s also participating in summer workouts and getting more comfortable with his teammates. Miles McCallop and the Clinton Dark Horses will open the 2025 North Carolina high school football season on August 22 against Lakewood.
