Kansas High School Football: Hugoton upsets Scott City with incredible last-gasp touchdown

Hugoton (Kan.) needed a miracle to remain undefeated on Friday night. It got just that.
Down 14-10, the Eagles faced a 4th-and-goal from the Scott City 29-yard line. With less than 25 seconds to go, quarterback Miguel Hernandez heaved one to the back of the end zone. As the ball’s spiral continued to loosen, it looked like it was going to land out of bounds. Luckily, wide receiver Adrian Adigun was on the chase.
Adigun laid all the way out and somehow made the catch while getting his feet down. With 17 seconds to play, Hugoton somehow found the lead and hung on for an improbable 17-14 victory.
With the win, Hugoton improved to 5-0 on the year. The Eagles came into Friday night boasting an elite offense, which had averaged over 50 points in its first four games. The Scott City defense proved stout and provided quite the challenge.
The Beavers are now 3-1-1. Hugoton’s defense has been rock-solid so far this season, too. It is yet to allow more than 18 points in a game.
Hugoton is the No. 48 team in Kansas, according to the Massey Ratings. It has three games left on the regular-season schedule: at Cimarron, vs. Holcomb and vs. Goodland. Scott City checks in as the No. 52 team in the Sunflower State and will also take on Holcomb and Goodland, as well as Colby Senior.
