The Kansas high school football playoffs have started. The best teams from the Sunflower State have completed convincing victories, helping them advance through the postseason. While most of the teams from last week’s top 25 list remained, three teams entered the rankings provided by Massey.

The Massey Ratings system, officially used during the BCS era, is a model that ranks sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, the strength of their schedule, and the margin of victory.

1. Andale Indians

The Indians improved to 11-0 after defeating Pratt in the Kansas high school football Class 3A sectionals. They have surrendered only 13 points in three playoff games. Andale will face Rock Creek in the semifinals on November 21.

2. Great Bend Panthers

The Panthers remain undefeated after escaping Hays with a 29-22 victory in the Class 5A sectionals. Daxton Minton finished with 155 passing yards, 73 rushing yards, and three touchdowns. Ian Premer added a rushing touchdown, while Cooper Ohnmacht had two receiving TDs. Great Bend will face Salina Central in the semifinals on the 21st.

3. St. James Academy Thunder

The Thunder escaped with a 45-41 win against Mill Valley in the Kansas high school football Class 5A sectionals. John Hornback led the St. James Academy offense with 308 passing yards, 101 rushing yards, and two touchdowns. Jake House finished with 81 rushing yards and four touchdowns, while Alec Jett tallied 160 receiving yards and a TD. The Thunder will face Basehor-Linwood on November 21.

4. St. Thomas Aquinas Saints

The Saints’ season ended with a 28-27 loss to Mill Valley in the Class 5A regionals. This defeat closes their campaign at 8-2, including a 6-0 district record. Unfortunately, St. Thomas Aquinas’ two losses were by a total of two points.

5. Mill Valley Jaguars

In their 45-41 loss to St. James Academy, Blake Jay (229 rushing yards, four touchdowns) and Max Piva (195 yards, one TD) powered the Jaguars offense.
