Kansas high school football team cancels rest of season due to injuries

For the second season in a row, Chase-Raymond (Kansas) has to forfeit games but this time compared to the 2024 campaign, they’re going to stop playing contests altogether this Kansas high school football season.
According to a KAKE News report, the Chase-Raymond football program is canceling the remainder of their 2025 high school football season due to injuries that have piled up from the first few weeks of the season.
Chase Unified School District 401 Superintendent Dr. Kylee McDonald released a statement, per the KAKE report.

“This football season began with so much excitement and hope. The Chase-Raymond team came together with a clear goal—to build a culture of grit, determination, and teamwork that would make our community proud. From early morning practices to Friday night lights, our players showed incredible heart, courage, and dedication every step of the way.
Unfortunately, the season took a difficult turn. Illness and injuries have hit our team especially hard, and this past week was particularly tough as two of our players suffered broken bones during a game and another of our student athletes has had to begin his battle with cancer again for the 6th time. After careful thought and consideration for the well-being of our students, we’ve made the difficult decision to cancel the remainder of the football season. It’s not an easy choice, but the health and safety of our students will always come first.
Even so, we couldn’t be prouder of our athletes. The way they’ve handled challenges, supported each other, and continued to show up with resilience and heart speaks volumes about who they are. They’ve truly lived out the spirit of Chase-Raymond—gritty, determined, and full of pride.
As we turn the page, our student-athletes are already looking ahead to the upcoming basketball and track seasons. That same grit and determination will be on full display as they push themselves to improve every single game, every single meet, and every single day. We know they’ll continue to make us proud both on and off the court and track.
Thank you to our players, coaches, families, and fans for your continued support and encouragement. Our community spirit remains strong, and together, we’ll keep building something special for our students.“
Last season was a difficult one for Chase-Raymond as the team scored 36 points and yielded 427 on defense. The Kats are 0-3 on the season, giving up 70 or more points twice and have been out-scored 178-24 through three games.
