A Kentucky high school football team will soon enjoy a new training center and an improved stadium.

St. Xavier High School announced that they have begun construction on an 11,000-square-foot, two-story center that will serve their varsity, junior varsity, and freshman football student-athletes.

The school will name the facility after Will Wolford, an alumnus who played 13 NFL seasons as an offensive tackle. After playing for St. Xavier and Vanderbilt, the three-time Pro Bowler suited for the Buffalo Bills, Indianapolis Colts, and Pittsburgh Steelers. He also became St. Xavier’s head football coach in 2013 and held that role until his retirement in 2017.

A portion of the press release reads, “Designed to support both athletic performance and student development, the facility will include two state-of-the-art locker rooms, meeting spaces and offices, equipment and uniform storage, and dressing rooms for physical education classes.”

In addition to the new building, the stadium improvements underway include a new turf field, an upgraded track, and a Daktronics video scoreboard. These additions will also benefit the school’s Cross Country, Lacrosse, and Soccer teams, as well as students participating in Physical Education classes. Meanwhile, St. Xavier’s wrestling student-athletes will also enjoy a new locker room soon.

To fund these projects, the school’s board of directors have approved a nine-million-dollar investment and more than half of which are already funded. With construction starting and barring any delays, the project will be open by late summer next year.

The Tigers finished the 2025-26 Kentucky high school football season with a 10-4 record. They made it to the Class 6A state semifinals but lost to eventual champions Trinity 50-7. Despite the winning season, the school is seeking a new head football coach.
