Klein (Texas) recovers five onside kicks in one half in incredible special teams display
The Nick Codutti era of Klein (Texas) football is off to a flying start.
On Thursday, the Bearkats improved to 4-0 on the 2025 season with a 44-20 win at Klein Forest. They showed no mercy on special teams.
In the first half, Klein attempted five onside kicks. Miraculously, it covered all five, making life miserable for the Klein Forest defense, which barely got a break all night. Klein raced out to a 36-0 lead.
On Saturday morning, Codutti stamped his seal of approval for his teamâs special teams dominance:
âThis isnât a gimmick. This is who we are,â Codutti wrote on X. âRelentless in effort, fearless in approach, unapologetic in identity. We donât play the odds â we define them.â
Klein announced the hiring of Codutti back in January following a 6-4 season last fall. He made the move from Fulshear, where he spent the previous four seasons as the head coach of the Chargers. Codutti compiled a 39-10 record during his tenure, with the 2024 season being Fulshearâs best campaign in program history. It finished with a 12-1 record, losing in the third round of the 6A-D1 playoffs.
Codutti averaged over nine wins a season during his tenure at Fulshear. Klein hasnât reached the seven-win mark since the 2017 season. Fulshear eclipsed the 10-win mark in each of the last three seasons under Codutti, who was just the second head coach in program history.

Now 4-0, Klein has its sights set on a special campaign. It is currently the No. 66 team in the Lone Star State, per the Massey Ratings. The Bearkats offense is averaging a whopping 59.5 points per game. They put up 75 points in a season-opening win over Oak Ridge and then notched 71 in a massive win over Klein Cain.
Their biggest test of the season thus far is on deck as they host No. 23 Klein Collins next Friday. The Massey Ratings predict a 38-36 win for Collins, though the Bearkats, onside kicks and all, will be ready to prove more people wrong.
