Liberty Christian Wins Virginia High School Football Class 3 State Championship

Liberty Christian Academy completed a perfect season by dominating Kettle Run in the Virginia high school football Class 3 state championship game. The Bulldogs haven’t suffered defeat in two years as they earned their second consecutive Virginia High School League championship.
The game wasn’t close as Liberty Christian established a 35-6 halftime lead and never looked back. The Cougars had no answer for Gideon Davidson, who had touchdown runs of three, 83, and 14 yards in the first half.
James Deyo added a one-yard TD run, and freshman quarterback Tyler Jackson completed a 53-yard scoring throw to Dalton Nesselrotte. Davidson added a six-yard TD run in the third quarter to settle the 42-6 final count. Generating 327 yards and six touchdowns proves why the Bulldogs have the second-best offense, per the Virginia On3 Massey Ratings.
Taking home the Class 3 state championship is a fitting ending to Davidson’s Virginia high school football career. Leading to the game, the six-foot running back from Ghana had 2,168 rushing yards and 37 touchdowns. He willed the Bulldogs to victory with 24 carries for 181 yards and added a 14-yard catch.

As his stint with Liberty Christian ends, Davidson will start his college football journey with the Clemson Tigers. Joining him there is interior offensive lineman Easton Ware, who committed to the South Carolina-based school in November 2023. Their efforts helped the Bulldogs finish the season ranked fifth in the Virginia On3 Composite Team Rankings.
Meanwhile, limiting the Cougars to six points is a fantastic achievement for a Liberty Christian defense often overshadowed by their offense. Kettle Run’s only points came at the end of the first half when Jacob Mulhern and Colton Lubbe connected on a 17-yard touchdown pass.
Losing to Liberty Christian in the state title game is Kettle Run’s only loss this season. At 14-1, the Cougars are 24th in the composite rankings.
