According to a report by the New Orleans Lens, a Louisiana high school football assistant coach at Sarah Towles Reed stepped down last week week following allegations of a paddling incident.

Per the report, the assistant coach’s last day was on Sep. 2.

Einstein Charter Schools spokeswoman Heather Harper told The Lens that Sarah Towles officials looked into the the alleged paddling and reported it to local law enforcement. Harper said the school “is aware of an alleged paddling incident involving a coach who is no longer employed at the school.”

The state of Louisiana passed a statewide ban on any corporal punishment in 2023, House Bill 242, that carves out an exception for parental permission.

“It made it a lot harder to use corporal punishment on students than it was five years ago, 10 years ago,” Loyola University of New Orleans professor/attorney Sara Godchaux said in the report. “There has to be explicit written consent for it to be performed. And there is a blanket ban on corporal punishment for any student with a disability.”

Sarah T. Reed High School originally opened in 1988 and was closed in 2014. It was re-opened in 2018 under the management of Einstein Charter Schools.

The Olympians opened their Louisiana high school football season last week against Abramson, falling in a 14-2 decision. The team is on the road when they tale on Albany.
