The final week of the high school football regular season has arrived across the state of Louisiana.

The postseason is just around the corner, with district representatives named this Saturday and playoff pairings announced just a few days later. Some teams across the state have already put the finishing touches on their resume, while others have one last chance to solidify themselves before the single-elimination tournament begins. And all have eyes on the Caesars Superdome, where each of the eight state title games will be played Dec. 11-13.

Heading into the final week, here are the top 25 teams in the state of Louisiana, according to the Massey Ratings.

1. Edna Karr Cougars (9-0)

Through nine games, Karr has been both the unstoppable force and the immovable object. The Cougars’ offense and defense both rank No. 1 in the state, according to Massey. And Friday night was an example of just how explosive the former can be. In a tense showdown with rival John Curtis, they jumped out to a 21-0 lead before fending off a comeback attempt and ultimately pulling away for a 48-26 win. Quarterback John Johnson completed 7 of 11 passes for 83 yards and rushed 12 times for 85 yards, while RB Tre Garrison had 19 carries for 102 yards and two touchdowns.

2. Ruston Bearcats (7-2)

After a demoralizing 45-28 loss to Alexandria a week earlier, Ruston got right back on the horse on Friday night against Pineville. Quarterback Sam Hartwell ran for three touchdowns and passed for another to lead the Bearcats to a 56-6 blowout win, notching their seventh win of the year. One final test awaits before the postseason: a showdown with No. 12 West Monroe, which the Bearcats are favored to win handily.

3. St. Augustine Purple Knights (8-1)

Despite being more than four-touchdown favorites, St. Augustine got quite a scare from a very motivated Holy Cross team on Friday night. The Tigers, still fighting for their playoff lives, actually led 17-14 at halftime. Buoyed by a strong running game, they brought the physicality to St. Aug, whose only loss this season was to No. 1 Edna Karr. Coming out of the second half, the Knights put together scoring drives of 80 and 52 yards to take control and hold on for a 32-24 victory.

4. Alexandria Trojans (9-1)

After a dominant 45-28 win over No. 2 Ruston, the Trojans’ meeting with Ouachita Parish had all the makings of a trap game. And the Lions nearly pulled it off. But Noble Williams and Kason Williams had other plans, leading a ground attack that rolled up 246 yards. Meanwhile, the Trojans’ defense picked off a pair of passes to help them escape with a 28-21 win. Looming this week is a big showdown with No. 11 Neville to finish off the season.

5. John Curtis Patriots (7-1)

John Curtis’ undefeated season was snuffed out over the weekend, as No. 1 Edna Karr was simply too much for the Patriots to overcome. After falling behind by three scores, they pulled with 28-20 but couldn’t get any closer than that. There’s no time to dwell on that one though, as No. 3 St. Augustine awaits in what will be the state’s premier matchup this weekend.
