Louisiana High School Football Rankings: Top 25 teams – Oct. 13

After another exciting weekend on the gridiron, the latest Louisiana high school football rankings are out heading into Week 7.
Edna Karr retained the top spot with a big win over Brother Martin, but we saw some movement elsewhere in the top 5 and throughout the rankings as a whole. Only a handful of teams remain unblemished, but we expect to see that change as well with the heart of district play upon us.
With four weeks remaining the in regular season and only two months until state championship weekend, here’s a look at the state’s top 25 teams:
1. Edna Karr Cougars (6-0)
The Cougars are in the midst of an absolute gauntlet right now, facing No. 4 St. Augustine last weekend before a big matchup against Brother Martin, who came into the game ranked 11th in the state. But Karr continues to roll. On Friday, they routed the Crusaders 48-13 to remain undefeated and hold onto the state’s top ranking. Quarterback John Johnson racked up three first-half rushing touchdowns for the Cougars, who jumped out to a 34-0 lead at halftime and never looked back.
2. Ruston Bearcats (5-1)
Coming off its first loss of the season to Stephenville (Texas), Ruston showed a ton of resilience in a hard-fought battle against Ouachita Parish. The Lions, who came into the game ranked in the state’s top 10, put the clamps on Ruston’s prolific rushing offense. But the Bearcats held Ouachita Parish to just 72 passing yards and capitalized on a few key mistakes. Five-star tight end Ahmad Hudson, battling an injury heading into the contest, led Ruston with 119 receiving yards and a touchdown.
3. John Curtis Patriots (5-0)
In a battle of top-25 teams, the Patriots’ defense came up big in a 21-13 win over Holy Cross on Friday night. It was the third win of the season for John Curtis by eight points or fewer, but their undefeated record remains intact. The Patriots took an early lead, then let the Tigers back in before ending the game with a fourth quarter pick-six to secure the win.
4. St. Augustine Purple Knights (5-1)
The Purple Knights dropped their first game of the season in a blowout loss to Edna Karr last weekend, but they didn’t let the loss linger very long. Buoyed by their high-octane offense, they rolled past Jesuit 46-23 and doubled up the Blue Jays. The schedule only gets tougher though, as they’ll go on the road to No. 8 Archbishop Rummel this weekend.

5. Alexandria Trojans (6-1)
After outscoring Many and Opelousas 116-6 in back-to-back weeks, Alexandria got a major test on Friday night against West Monroe. Unfortunately for the Trojans, they couldn’t slow down down the Rebels offense in a 34-31 loss. Quarterback Karsen Sellers threw for 201 yards and three touchdowns, but ultimately is wasn’t enough to keep Alexandria from falling from the undefeated ranks.
