Louisiana High School Football Rankings: Top 25 teams – Oct. 21

Another huge weekend of high school football around Louisiana is over as the playoffs loom, and the top-25 state rankings are now updated to reflect all the results.
Ruston remains at the top of the list, but there’s been plenty of movement elsewhere — including a new No. 2 — which can be found below:
The On3 Massey Ratings — which were officially used during the BCS era and have generated college high school sports team rankings since 1995 — rank sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule and margin of victory.

1. Ruston
Previous: No. 1
Despite dropping a 26-21 decision to No. 4 Neville at home over the weekend, the Bearcats are still the No. 1 team, per the Massey Ratings. They’ll look to get back on track this weekend, but have a tough road test at No. 7 Alexandria.
2. Edna Karr
Previous: No. 3 (+1)
The Cougars ascend to the No. 2 spot after fighting off a scrappy Jesuit squad to win 21-9 on Friday night. 4-5 Warren Easton is up next before two top-10 opponents to close the regular season.
3. Acadiana
Previous: No. 2 (-1)
Acadiana drops slightly this week, but not because of a loss. The Rams blew out crosstown rival Lafayette 55-10 on Friday and will now face No. 22 Southside at home this week.
4. Neville
Previous: No. 5 (+1)
The Tigers got a massive win on Friday night, upsetting No. 1 Ruston — who was favored to win the game by four touchdowns. They’ll have to stay sharp though, as three top-25 opponents await to close out the year.
5. Catholic
Previous: No. 6 (+1)
Baton Rouge Catholic made easy work of No. 7 Central, rolling to a 35-17 win at home on Friday. The Bears are heavily favored in their next two games before a season finale on the road at No. 8 Zachary.
6. Archbishop Rummel
Previous: No. 7 (+1)
Rummel continues its move up the rankings after beating New Orleans rival St. Augustine on Friday on the road in a slight upset. Like Neville, they will also face three ranked teams in their final three games.
7. Alexandria
Previous: No. 4 (-3)
The Trojans took a tumble this week despite remaining undefeated and blowing out Pineville 56-21. They’ll get their biggest test — and biggest chance to prove themselves — this week when they host No. 1 Ruston.

8. Zachary
Previous: No. 8
Zachary had no issues dispatching Liberty Magnet on Friday, winning going away 42-8. Woodlawn comes to town this week before a road game at No. 12 Central and a home finale vs. No. 5 Catholic.
9. John Curtis
Previous: No. 13 (+4)
The Patriots jumped into the top 10 after pulling out a 17-14 home win over Brother Martin, setting up some big games the next few weeks versus No. 18 Jesuit, No. 2 Karr, and No. 21 St. Augustine.
10. St. Thomas More
Previous: No. 11 (+1)
The Cougars took a forfeit win this week after Comeaux’s team was suspended for a game by the LHSAA following an altercation at the end of their last game. STM will be back on the field vs. Rayne this week before a huge showdown with No. 11 Tuerlings Catholic.
