Marion Local (OH), Garden City (N.Y.) hold nation's longest current win streaks

When it comes to long-standing winning streaks in high school football around the nation, there’s two teams that stand out amongst the rest: Marion Local (OH) and Garden City (N.Y.).
According to High School Football America, both the Marion Local Flyers and Garden City Trojans hold the longest current winning streaks of any high school football teams across the country, with Marion Local at 71 straight wins and Garden City having won 58 consecutive, respectively.
Next three closest teams when it comes to enduring win streaks are Sheridan (WY) at 49, Grundy Center (IA) with 45 and Royal (WA) at 40, respectively.
The Flyers (7-0) are the one out of the two teams that has had a couple close calls this season that have threatened the time-honored winning streak. Back on Sep. 5, Marion Local narrowly got by St. Henry in a 21-14 victory and then later in the month beat Versailles in a 20-19 thriller.
Marion Local is taking aim at winning a 17th state championship this season in the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) Division VII classification. The Flyers went 16-0 last season and if they can match the feat again this winter, would extend their winning streak to 80 games.
On the Garden City (4-0) side of the spectrum when it comes to the winning streaks, the Trojans have moseyed along with little resistance outside of the regular season opener against Long Beach, a 31-16 victory.

The Trojans have won their last three games by a combined 144-14 with four contests to go in the regular season. This weekend, though, could see Garden City’s streak challenged for the first time since Week 1. Garden City is looking to win a fifth consecutive Division III Long Island championship this season after defeating Sayville last year for the title, 31-28.
Garden City takes on undefeated Mepham (3-0) on Saturday afternoon, in what should be the toughest game of the latter half of the Trojans’ schedule this 2025 campaign. The Pirates defeated Long Beach a couple weeks ago, 24-0, a common opponent between Garden City and Mepham.
2025 could be the year that sees long-established winning streaks come to an end as Virginia’s Phoebus saw its 50-game ride come to an end when they fell to Warwick, 34-20, on Sep. 27.
Other teams that have seen their winning streaks fallen this season are among the following:
Carl Albert (OK) – 39
Norfolk Catholic (Neb.) – 39
Maury (VA) – 30
Montgomery Catholic Preparatory (Ala.) – 30
Stewartville (Minn.) – 30
Stephen Decatur (Md.) – 28
Liberty Christian Academy (VA) – 28
Somers (N.Y.) – 27
Martinsburg (W.V.) – 27
