The 2025 Maryland high school football season is in full swing as teams have finished the second week of action. St. Frances Academy stays on top of the state rankings, with DeMatha Catholic coming in second. Here’s how Massey ranked Maryland’s best based on the latest games.
The Massey Ratings system, officially used during the BCS era, is a model that ranks sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule, and margin of victory.
1. St. Frances Academy Panthers
After losing to St. John Bosco, the best team in Maryland high school football recovered via a 34-26 win against Pennsylvania’s St. Joseph’s Prep. The Panthers can secure two victories in a row if they can defeat The First Academy on September 19.
2. DeMatha Catholic Stags
The Stags are on a 13-game winning streak after a dominating 44-7 victory over Roman Catholic. DeMatha Catholic scored 20 and 24 points in the second and third quarters to earn its 15th consecutive victory dating back to last season. Next for the Stags is a road game against Mt. Zion Prep Academy on September 19.
