Massachusetts High School Football Rankings: Top 25 Teams - Oct. 7

Massachusetts high school football season has seen a few changes at the top, with this week providing New Englanders another new No. 1 of the Bay State.
St. John’s Preparatory School takes over the top ranking, with Catholic Memorial and Tabor Academy following in at the No. 2-3 spots, respectively. Which other teams, though, join the three aforementioned teams when it comes to the latest Massachusetts high school football Top 25 rankings?
The Massey Ratings, officially used during the BCS era, is a model that ranks sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule, and margin of victory.
Here is the latest Massachusetts high school football Top 25 rankings, according to Massey as of Oct. 7.
1. St. John’s Preparatory School Eagles
The Eagles (4-0) are the new No. 1 team out of Massachusetts this week and there’s plenty to like about this team. St. John’s boasts having one of the best sophomore quarterbacks in the country in Christopher Vargas, who is coming off a solid freshman campaign. Vargas last season threw for 1,311 yards, 17 touchdowns and only three mere interceptions. St. John’s Prep defeated Rhode Island’s previous No. 1 La Salle Academy in a 53-20 decision the last time they took the field on Sep. 27. This Friday the Eagles return to play on the road against Boston College High (1-3).
2. Catholic Memorial Knights
Catholic Memorial (3-0) are once again loaded with Power 4 talent, with a handful that’ll be making the short trip over to Boston College after their time with the Knights. Among the myriad of Boston College commitments are 2026 three-star linemen Marcelino Antunes, Mac Fitzgerald, 2027 safety Jackson Tucker and 2028 athlete Ramar Thomas.
The Knights are always in the mix when it comes to MIAA’s Division 2 classification and their most impressive victory of the season was a 56-32 romp over St. Francis (N.Y.) several weeks ago. The Knights defend home turf against Malden Catholic (3-1) on Friday night.
3. Tabor Academy Seawolves
Coming in at the No. 3 spot is the Tabor Academy Seawolves (3-0), whom feature one of the state’s most talented rosters bar none. The Seawolves have a bevy of Division I talent, which includes players like junior quarterback Peter Bourque (Michigan commit), Amahn Williams (UCF commit) and a pair of UCLA defensive linemen commitments in Carter Gooden and Marcus Almada, respectively.
Tabor Academy was impressive in their regular season opener, a 37-6 rout of The Williston Northampton School and then the following week dominated The Governors Academy in a 46-6 rout. Last week the Seawolves took care of business against Milton Academy in a 51-26 win.
The Seawolves are coming off a bye week face off against Trinity Pawling on Saturday.
4. King Phillip Regional Warriors
King Philip Reg (5-0) have had themselves a couple of close calls in back-to-back weeks when they just edged out Foxborough, 15-12, and then a 23-21 win over Natick last week.
The Warriors are coming off another strong season in the MIAA’s Division II classification, in which they went 12-1 and reached the state championship game, losing to Catholic Memorial. With an advantageous schedule that mimics last year’s, the road back to the title game looks clear once again for the Warriors.
King Phillip Regional gets a bye week before they return to action on Oct. 17 against Taunton (3-1).

5. Springfield Central Golden Eagles
The Golden Eagles (3-1) have been an interesting team through the first four games of the season, as this group could easily be 4-0 after losing their opener by one point to St. John’s Preparatory School, 36-35.
Since then, Springfield Central has bounced back with three straight quality victories against Mansfield, Westfield and Xaverian Brothers, with the latter coming against a state championship winning team from a year ago.
Springfield Central will look to make it four consecutive wins when they hit the road over to Longmeadow.
