Miami Jackson forfeits 'Soul Bowl' to rival Miami Northwestern
One of Florida’s longest ongoing rivalry games won’t be played this season. .
Miami Northwestern athletic director Andre Williams confirmed to Rivals that Miami Jackson has forfeited this week’s 55th annual ‘Soul Bowl’ between the two high school football teams. Florida’s No. 5 ranked Northwestern currently leads the all-time series between the Bulls and Generals 39-15.
Jackson is 0-5 on the current 2025 season and has been out-scored 190-18. The Massey Ratings had projected Northwestern to defeat Jackson 48-0.
At the height of the rivalry that used to be played in front of thousands in attendance, it at one time was being regularly played at the Miami Orange Bowl Stadium that had been in use up until 2008. The largest crowd to attend the rivalry game between the two schools was back on Nov. 6, 1998 when 46,474 people came and watch Northwestern defeat Jackson, 23-13.
In what used to be a storied matchup, the Soul Bowl has been nothing but in recent years. The Bulls are 11-1 against the Generals in the last 12 times the teams have lined it up, with Northwestern having out-scored Jackson 472-109 since 2012.

The last time the Soul Bowl wasn’t played was 2020 when the Bulls only played five games due to the coronavirus pandemic. Only three other years since 1967 the Bulls and Generals have not played, which was 1974, 1993 and 2005, with the last being because of Hurricane Wilma.
Northwestern is currently 3-1 on the season and are one of the favorites to make it back to Florida’s Class 3A state championship game and repeat. The Bulls are scheduled to next take the field on Oct. 4 when they take on No. 3 Miami Central at Traz Powell Stadium.
