The Michigan high school football season is in full gear as plenty of exciting action took place on the gridiron last week. Which teams from the Wolverine State are featured in this week’s set of Top 25 rankings?

Orchard Lake St. Mary’s Prep remains the top team in the state after the Eaglets cruised in a 49-10 victory over De La Salle Collegiate last week. With multiple matchups on the slate involving Top 25 teams, this week’s schedule figures to shakeup the rankings quite a bit come next week.

The Massey Ratings, officially used during the BCS era, is a model that ranks sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule, and margin of victory.

Here is the latest Michigan high school football Top 25 rankings, according to Massey as of Sep. 16.

1. Orchard Lake St. Mary’s Prep Eaglets

The Eaglets, the defending Div. II state champions had kicked off the 2025 campaign by dismantling Portage Northern in a 41-0 decision. Orchard Lake St. Mary’s quarterback Jabin Gonzales has been one of the state’s top quarterbacks and the junior signal caller will need to be at his best when the Eaglets take on second-ranked Detroit Catholic Central this week. With an offense that’s averaging a staggering 44 points per game, a lot will be on Gonzales and crew to keep the scoring average up this Friday night.

2. Detroit Catholic Central Shamrocks

The Shamrocks have been on an absolute roll to start the season as the team has raced out to a 3-0 start behind the steady play of their offense. With Michigan State receiver commit Samson Gash leading the way with 10 catches for 208 yards and three touchdowns, there’s very few teams around Michigan that can feasibly slow them down. Up next for Detroit Catholic Central is a matchup against top-ranked Orchard Lake St. Mary’s (see above). This will decide who the No. 1 team is in the Wolverine State.

3. Hudsonville Eagles

In a matchup of Michigan state championship runners-up from the 2024 season, the Eagles (3-0) emerged on top after a back-and-forth affair over No. 23 Byron Center, 27-21. Hudsonville has been dominant in the following two victories over East Lansing and Caledonia, with the Eagles looking to continue their success when they take on West Ottawa this week.

4. Cass Tech Technicians

The Technicians (3-0) stormed back from a 20-point deficit to edge out Ohio’s Central Catholic, 28-27, at the Prep Kickoff Classic to begin the season. Last week wasn’t anywhere quite as difficult for Cass Technical as they breezed to a 71-0 defeat of Renaissance. Quarterback Donald Tabron II has proven himself as one of the best Class of 2028 quarterbacks in the country. Next up for Cass Tech is a date against No. 18 Martin Luther King Jr.

5. East Kentwood Falcons

The Falcons (3-0) make their way inside of the Top 5 this week coming off of a dominating 54-7 victory over Jenison last week. East Kentwood features one of the state’s best passers in quarterback Kayd Coffman (Michigan State commit.), who has led a Falcons’ offense that’s averaging 46.6 points per game. East Kentwood faces their toughest test of the season when they take on Rockford this week.
