Last fall saw Mission Viejo (Calif.) put together a 10-1 campaign, which ended in the CIF Southern Section Division I quarterfinals. Despite the disappointing postseason push, the Diablos looked like one of the nation’s top defensive squads.

Allowing an average of 11.6 points per game, Mission Viejo was dynamite on the defensive side of the ball. It finished the season as the No. 26 team nationally and the No. 6 team in California, per the On3 Composite Rankings.

Alabama five-star cornerback signee Dijon Lee and Ohio State four-star wide receiver signee Phillip Bell are the notable names no longer on the program, but there’s still plenty of star power set to hit the field this fall. They’ll be on the road plenty, too.

Mission Viejo announced its 2025 schedule back in February. Of the 10 games on the docket, seven are currently set to come on the road, including five of the first six. It will be another challenging year for head coach Chad Johnson and the Diablos.

The season is set to begin on Aug. 22 at Santa Margarita Catholic. After taking on St. Paul the following week, Viejo will play its home opener on Sept. 5 against Folsom and five-star quarterback Ryder Lyons.

September features a three-game road trip, including a cross-country trek to Tennessee to take on McCallie in Chattanooga. In-state games at San Diego Lincoln and Chaparral will bookend the trip to the Volunteer State.

Its other two home games will come in October against Long Beach Poly and San Clemente. The final two games of the season will see the Diablos head to Edison and Los Alamitos.

Mission Viejo’s upcoming roster will be headlined by some offensive firepower. Quarterback Luke Fahey enters his senior season ranked as the No. 23 QB nationally. He’ll have an elite weapon to throw to in four-star wide receiver and current Georgia commit Vance Spafford, a top-100 prospect nationally. Cornerback Jeron Jones will look to lead the defense and help keep the Diablos’ defense firing on all cylinders in the coming months.
