Mississippi association hands down penalties after skirmish during football 4A title game
A video that went viral showed a sideline incident take place in the Class 4A-D3 Midsouth Association of Independent Schools (MAIS) title game from Robinson-Hale Stadium at Mississippi College between Brookhaven Academy and Lamar School now has official consequences.
The MAIS ACC put out an official press release regarding the penalties that the association would be assessing each school for their role in the fight that took place in the second quarter of the contest. Lamar would end up winning the game, 34-17, though it was overshadowed by the skirmish that took place on the Brookhaven sidelines.
What caused the skirmish on the sidelines was when Lamar School quarterback Sullivan Reed was running out of bounds early in the second quarter of the MAIS 4A state title game and as he was going out of bounds, a Brookhaven Academy assistant pushed the passer to the ground.
Reed reacted by throwing the football in the direction of the coach, but instead hit a Brookhaven player in the back, thus causing the sidelines to erupt into a melee. Game officials ended up removing Reed from the contest, but allowed the Brookhaven assistant to remain in the contest, only assessing a penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct.
According to a the MAIS release, two Brookhaven coaches, Hunter Przytarski and Bubba Keene, are both barred from attending any association athletic events for the 2026 season and each fined $1,000. The release also mentioned that for either coach to be considered on being allowed to coach in the MAIS ever again, they would need to appear in front of the AAC and present to the committee reasons on why they should be allowed to return to coaching in Mississippi independent association.

The MAIS AAC determined that both coaches had made ‘aggressive and forceful contact’ with the Lamar quarterback, thus leading to their decision on the sanctions handed down.
An unnamed injured Brookhaven player has been banned from attending any further MAIS athletic contests for the remainder of the 2025-26 school year, which the student-athlete will also not be allowed to play in any contests until after Brookhaven plays their first game of the 2026 season.
Both schools were fined, with Brookhaven being hit with a $1,500 penalty and Lamar at $500, respectively.
