Mississippi high school football coaching legend dies at 75

M.C. Miller, who roamed Mississippi high school football sidelines for nearly five decades, has died at the age of 75, according to the Clarion-Ledger.
A native of Louisville (Miss.), Miller was an inductee in the 2019 Mississippi Association of Coaches Hall of Fame. He finished with a career record of 252-134-4, including a 42-16 record in the postseason and three state titles over the course of 33 years as a head coach.
He coached in the state for a total of 48 years, starting as an assistant at Noxubee County in 1974.
Five years later, he was promoted to the head position. Later, he became an assistant at Louisville from 1988-1994 before returning to Noxubee County from 1995 to 2009 as the head coach. There, he led the Tigers to their first MHSAA Class 4A state title in 2008 after falling one game short in 2007.
After the 2009 campaign, he was hired on at Louisville. Miller led the Wildcats to a 96-32 record from 2010-18, winning a Class 3A title in 2013 and a 4A state championship in 2018. After that title run, he retired before returning to the game as an assistant at multiple schools.
