Mississippi high school football team fined for refusing to run a play in the 2nd half of game

According to a report by the Enterprise-Journal, a Mississippi high school football team has been fined $7,500 and its head coach barred from the postseason by the Mississippi Association of Independent Schools (MAIS).
The fine and suspension of the Marshall Academy head coach Dunny Bunio stems from the team’s refusal to run an offensive play in the second half in protest of a call made by officials earlier in the MAIS game.
Per the report, Marshall Academy was facing Washington, which ended up being a 53-6 loss, and the latter was awarded a safety, though it wasn’t exactly specified when the penalty was given. In response to the safety awarded to Washington, Bunio’s team decided to not run an offensive play the entire second half which led officials to eventually calling the contest and citing a rule from the National Federation of High School Football rulebook.
The report added that because of the acts by Bunio and his team, the head coach was fined $1,000 and banned from coaching Marshall Academy for the MAIS postseason. Bunio is deemed indefinitely suspended by the MAIS to coach in any sport until further review, as well.
