Missouri high school football coach resigns after pattern of rules violations

Jason Rogers, a rising high school football coaching star in the state of Missouri, has resigned from his position at Lee’s Summit North (Mo.), the school announced on Wednesday.

The second-year head coach, who replaced Jamar Mozee when he took an assistant coaching job at Nebraska in 2024, was suspended for the first three games of the Broncos’ season due to alleged rules violations.

Last month, school leaders learned that Rogers violated state practice regulations by exceeding the 20-day summer cap for working with student-athletes. According to a statement from the school released on Wednesday, more violations have occurred since then. That includes players participating in practices without physicals or proper registration. On Wednesday, Lee’s Summit North principal Tim Collins sent a letter to families notifying them of the coaching change.

Assistant coach Deron Washington had been serving as the interim head coach during Rogers’ suspension. And he will now do for the rest of the season. Lee’s Summit North is coming off an 11-2 season in 2024 — Rogers’ first at the helm — where they fell to Nixa in the state Class 6A state quarterfinals. Under Mozee and then Rogers, the program produced some of the state’s top players in recent years, including Nebraska defensive end Williams Nwaneri, Missouri offensive linemen Cayden Green and Armand Membou, as well as Nebraska wide receiver Isaiah Mozee.

Nwaneri was a consensus five-star prospect in the Class of 2024, while Green has earned preseason All-American honors this year, and Membou was a top-10 pick of the New York Jets in April’s NFL Draft.

In the Broncos’ lone game of the 2025 season, they knocked off Kansas City-area rival Raymore-Peculiar but face a daunting schedule that includes seven more top-25 opponents in the state.

LSN currently ranks No. 2 in the Show-Me State, according to the Rivals Composite High School Football Team Ranking, a proprietary algorithm that compiles rankings listed in the public domain by respected High School media and data companies. 

School releases statement about Rogers’ resignation

“Dear Bronco Football Families,
I am writing to share some difficult news about our football program. Earlier this month, we informed you that the district self-reported violations of Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) regulations related to no-contact days. At that time, the district took corrective steps to address lapses in policy and MSHSAA bylaws.

I am disappointed to share that since Aug. 1 additional violations have occurred, specifically a few students participating in practices without fully completing their physicals or the registration process.
At LSN, we believe all of our programs must meet high standards of compliance and care for students. Today the district accepted the resignation of Head Coach Jason Rogers, effective immediately. To provide consistency and stability for our athletes, Coach Deron Washington will continue serving as Interim Head Coach.

We are committed to supporting our players through this period of change.
I know this is not the start to the season anyone wanted, and I recognize how disappointing and disruptive this has been for our athletes. Please know that the decisions we make are rooted in protecting student safety and ensuring positive experiences. Privacy rules may sometimes limit what we can share, but never the seriousness with which we address these matters.
