Game of the Week AFI

The national high school football scene has another great slate of games on tap as the regular season winds down around the country.

There’s a number of solid matchups from California to Arizona to Connecticut and down Florida’s South Suncoast region. Here’s a look at the 10 biggest national high school football games you won’t want to miss from Oct. 23-25.

No. 22 Bixby (OK) at Mustang (OK)

When: Thursday, Oct. 23, 8 p.m. ET
Where: Bronco Stadium, Mustang, OK.

Starting off the week on a Thursday night is the Massey Ratings No. 2 ranked Bixby Spartans going on the road to face a Mustang (5-2) squad, led by Florida State commit Jaden O’Neal at quarterback. This Oklahoma high school football matchup should be like many for Bixby (8-0), which turns into high scoring affairs. The Spartans cruised to a 92-0 rout of Enid last week and are averaging over 66 points a contest, with senior quarterback Carson Kirby throwing for 1,604 yards, 24 touchdowns and only one interception this fall.

Massey Prediction: Bixby 52, Mustang 18

Greenwich (Conn.) at New Canaan (Conn.)

When: Thursday, Oct. 23, 8 p.m. ET
Where: Bronco Stadium, New Canaan, OK.

How about a little Connecticut high school football action? What could be the best matchup at the midway point of the season, the Cardinals and Rams collide, which the last time the teams faced off was in 2021, with Greenwich coming away with a 14-7 win. New Canaan (5-0) is Connecticut’s No. 1 ranked team and have received solid production on offense from quarterback Maddox Hoffman, who has thrown for 785 yards and seven touchdowns. Hoffman will be countered by Greenwich (5-0) running back Hector Lopez, who has rushed for 788 yards and seven scores.

Massey Prediction: New Canaan 28, Greenwich 14

St. John’s College (D.C.) at No. 12 DeMatha Catholic (Md.)

When: Friday, Oct. 24, 7 p.m. ET
Where: Heurich Field, Hyattsville, Maryland

Undefeated DeMatha Catholic (7-0) has proven to be right behind the likes of St. Frances Academy on the national level with their play this season. The Stags features a trio of talented wide receivers in Joshua ParkerChace Irvin and Evan Jones, respectively. St. John’s College is coming off a 17-13 loss to Good Counsel, which lost to DeMatha 7-0 back on Oct. 10. When it comes to DMV matchups, this figures to be the best of ’em all.

Massey Prediction: DeMatha Catholic 34, St. John’s College 13

Thomas County Central (Ga.) at Houston County (Ga.)

When: Friday, Oct. 24, 7:30 p.m. ET
Where: Thomas County Stadium, Thomasville, Ga.

There’s no denying the scoring prowess the Thomas County Central Yellow Jackets (8-0) pose to any opponent on Friday nights as they are averaging a ridiculous 56 points per game. That’s led by the play of Nebraska commitment Jabari Watkins (30 catches, 490 yards) at wide receiver. The Yellow Jackets are coming off a 70-0 rout of Northside and will go up against a very talented Houston County (7-0), which is led defensively by Georgia safety pledge Jordan Smith patrolling the back end.

Massey Prediction: Thomas County Central 42, Lee County 20

Muscle Shoals (Ala.) at Hartselle (Ala.)

When: Friday, Oct. 24, 8 p.m. ET
Where: J P Crane Stadium, Hartselle, Ala.

We usually are featuring some of the nationally ranked teams from the Yellowhammer State, but we couldn’t pass up this matchup of when the undefeated Trojans and Tigers clash. Muscle Shoals (9-0) strength of their team lies within their defensive line, led by four-star Alabama commitment Kamhariyan Johnson. The Trojans have only yielded 34 points all season long and they’ll look to slow down Hartselle (8-0) offense led by senior running Jaheim Pruitt, who has rushed for over 600 yards this fall.

Massey Prediction: Muscle Shoals 29, Hartselle 20

Ensworth (Tenn.) at Baylor School (Tenn.)

When: Friday, Oct. 24, 8 p.m. ET
Where: Heywood Stadium, Chattanooga, Tennessee

It’s hard to ignore the level of play of Baylor School (7-0) as they have proven themselves as the Volunteer State’s best team. Ensworth (6-2), ranked as Tennessee’s No. 6 team, has been playing solid as well, with their only two losses coming to Nashville Christian and Brentwood Academy. Baylor features Louisville four-star quarterback commit Briggs Cherry, who guides an offense that’s averaging 44.2 points per game. Can Ensworth’s defense slow down Briggs and the Red Raiders’ offense will be the big question on Friday night in the battle between Tennessee powerhouses.

Massey Prediction: Baylor School 40, Ensworth 20

Bentonville (AR) at Rogers (AR)

When: Friday, Oct. 24, 8 p.m. ET
Where: Whitey Smith Stadium, Rogers, Arkansas

The No. 2-3 ranked teams out of the state of Arkansas clash in a battle of unbeaten programs and this could be the state’s best contest of the 2025 season. Bentonville (8-0) is coming off a 48-14 beatdown of Fayetteville last week and the Tigers feature multiple Arkansas Razorback wide receiver pledges in Dequane Prevo and Blair Irvin. Rogers (7-0) cruised to a 70-14 rout of Springdale last Friday and is led defensively by BYU commit Braxton Lindsey at linebacker.

Massey Prediction: Bentonville 37, Rogers 35

Hamilton (Ariz.) at No. 13 Basha (Ariz.)

When: Friday, Oct. 24, 10 p.m. ET
Where: Jim Wall Stadium, Chandler, Arizona

No game down in the Grand Canyon State can matchup to this one as Arizona’s No. 2 and 3 teams square off in the desert for what should be the Game of the Year in the state. Hamilton (7-0) has looked nearly unstoppable offensively by one of the top Class of 2028 wide receivers in four-star talent Roye Oliver, who has hauled in 52 passes for 1,106 yards and 23 touchdowns. Nationally ranked Basha has been superb through their first seven games, led by the play of North Texas commit Broderick Vehrs, who has thrown for 1,370 yards and 18 scores.

Massey Prediction: Hamilton 35, Basha 34

Orange Lutheran (Calif.) at No. 16 Santa Margarita Catholic (Calif.)

When: Friday, Oct. 24, 10 p.m. ET
Where: Saddleback College Stadium, Mission Viejo, Calif.

Santa Margarita Catholic (5-3) looks to get back on track this week against a talented Orange Lutheran (2-6) team that just had to forfeit two games due to an ineligible player. Former NFL Pro Bowler Carson Palmer has done stellar job in his first season at the helm of his alma mater and looks to lead his Eagles to what would be their most wins since 2017, when they last won seven games. The Lancers still remain on track to qualify for the CIF playoffs despite the multiple forfeitures under their belt now.

Massey Prediction: Santa Margarita Catholic 26, Orange Lutheran 20

East St. Louis (Ill.) at No. 2 IMG Academy (Fla.)

When: Saturday, Oct. 25, 12 p.m. ET
Where: IMG Stadium, Bradenton, Fla.

IMG Academy (7-0) is coming off a 41-24 win over the NFL Academy of the United Kingdom and now welcomes Illinois’ No. 1 team, East St. Louis, into town. Head coach Greg Studrawa has this IMG Academy team playing very balanced offense football behind the right arm of sophomore sensation Jayden Wade, who leads an Ascenders’ offense that’s averaging 46 points per game. East St. Louis has won five straight since starting the season 0-2, beating O’Fallon last week, 48-6.

Massey Prediction: IMG Academy 40, East St. Louis 14
