According to 10/11 News’ Chase Matteson on Tuesday afternoon, Lincoln High (Neb.) principal Mark Larson announced Tuesday that the Links, a 4-2 Nebraska high school football team, will be forfeiting Friday’s contest against defending Class A state champion Millard South due to player injuries sustained the week before.

Last week, the Links dropped their second game of the season in a 57-0 defeat by Lincoln Southeast.

“Due to the extent of player injuries sustained in last week’s game, and a number of other factors, we are communicating with Millard South and the NSAA today that we are forfeiting the game,” said Larson via 10/11 News. “This was not an easy decision. Ultimately we need to make the best decision for players’ health and safety so we can finish our season. This will allow an extra week for our players to heal.”

Lincoln’s only other loss on the season came against Fremont, a 42-7 defeat back on Sep. 12.

The Patriots have been the most dominant team in Nebraska high school football this season, having out-scored their first six opponents by a combined 391-17. Millard South’s offense is averaging a ridiculous 65.1 points per game this season.

Leading the Patriots’ offense is Alabama four-star commitment Jett Thomalla, who quarterbacks the Patriots and had been off to a hot start himself behind center for Millard South. Thomalla through the six games had completed 104 of 135 (77 percent) passes for 1,790 yards, 31 touchdowns and just two interceptions.
