Defensive Line coach Sascha Hyer. Venice celebrated a huge win 55-26 over the West Orange Warriors, winning the Class 7A-Region 2 Final, at Powell-Davis Stadium in Venice, FL, on Friday night Nov. 29, 2024.

One of the newest high schools along Florida’s South Suncoast has decided on who their first-ever head football coach will be. They didn’t have to look too far to find him.

According to a report by The Daily Sun, the brand new Wellen Park High School, located in Sarasota County and set to open for the 2026-27 school year, has tabbed Sascha Hyer as the program’s first-ever head football coach. This isn’t Hyer’s first run as a Florida high school head coach as he led North Port in the 2000’s.

Here’s an excerpt from the announcement made on the school’s official Facebook page:

Wellen Park High School is proud to announce Coach Sascha Hyer as the first-ever Head Football Coach in school history! Coach Hyer brings over 30 years of coaching experience and a championship pedigree to Wellen Park. A former player at Shepherd College, he’s coached at the collegiate and high school levels-most recently serving as Defensive Line Coach at Venice High School, where he helped lead the Indians to State Championships in 2017, 2021, and 2024. Beyond football, Coach Hyer is known for his leadership in the weight room and classroom. His Lady Iron Indians weightlifting team earned their first District Title and four straight County Championships under his guidance.

What stands out more so than already having head coaching experience is Hyer has been apart of a state championship-level program right down the road in the Venice Indians. Hyer served as the defensive line coach for John Peacock, being apart of three state championship teams in 2017, 2021 and 2024.

Hyer comes with over three decades of Florida high school football coaching experience on the South Suncoast, but before coaching in the region had graduated from Shepherd College, a Division II school.
